Chapter 722: Behind the Glass Door

Xu Ke looked at the cautious appearance of the person opposite and said with a smile, "You don’t need to be so careful. There’s nothing that can’t be said. I already have a wife, but we don’t have children yet." Xu Ke answered with a smile.
Through the large glass window, the two people seemed to be chatting happily and looked like a good match.
A man stood outside the large shop window, glaring fiercely at the two inside, appearing as if he wanted to devour them.
The man’s gaze seemed almost tangible, falling upon the two people. The female shop owner was talking to Xu Ke, but as she spoke, her eyes drifted outside the window. She then put away her smile, looking outside with an expression of slight nervousness and fear. Xu Ke followed her gaze.
"Is something wrong?" Xu Ke casually glanced at the man outside and politely asked the female shop owner, "Do you need me to call the police?"
"No need, we know each other." The smile on the female shop owner’s face looked a bit forced, and her voice was pitifully small. If Xu Ke hadn’t been paying attention to her, her words could have easily been overlooked.
The man strode to the store’s entrance, abruptly opened the door, and charged in, loudly cursing at the mother and daughter, "Bitch, whore, slut who can’t survive without a man. You’re hugging my daughter and chatting happily with another man, what are you trying to do? Are you trying to make my daughter call another man ’Dad’?"
"Let me tell you, as long as I’m alive, this will never happen. My daughter can only have one father, and that’s me. If you dare to find another dad for my daughter, I have the guts to make sure you’ll never see her again. If you don’t believe me, just try it." The man glared viciously at the female shop owner, waving his fist at her.
The female shop owner took a step back, clutching her child, who had been smiling happily at Xu Ke just moments ago. Now, the child hurriedly buried her head in her mother’s neck, clinging to her mother’s clothes like she had done countless times before, not daring to let go.
The man wasn’t finished; he zeroed in on Xu Ke like a mad dog, "Stay away from them. If you dare get close again, I’ll make you pay, I’ll make all of you pay!" After declaring his claim, the man felt much better, but upon seeing Xu Ke still standing there without any intention of leaving, his expression turned sinister again.
"Why are you still here? Aren’t you going to roll out, or do you want me to kick you out?" The man angrily grabbed a beautifully wrapped bouquet beside him and slammed it to the ground, trampling the flowers one by one, and said.
"I’m sorry for dragging you into this. You should leave," the female shop owner said, holding her child, tears already forming in her eyes.
"You’re such a bitch, flirting with this man right in front of me and the child. Can’t survive without a man, or can’t help yourself from hitting on other men," the man said, more frenzied than before, approaching the female shop owner without any thought, raising his hand as if to slap her.
"Isn’t this a bit much?" Xu Ke reached out and grabbed the man’s wrist, speaking.
"This is a matter between husband and wife, what is it to you, an outsider? Or have you been seduced by this slut and want to stand up for her?" The man grinned, showing his white teeth.
"Sir, you shouldn’t get involved in our issues. He’s very good at fighting, and you won’t be able to beat him." The woman held her child with one hand and covered her mouth with the other, tears silently flowing from her eyes, her body trembling slightly, looking like a helpless animal targeted by a predator, truly pitiful.
Xu Ke let out a long sigh. How could he just walk away from this mother and daughter under these circumstances? Knowing that they’d face a terrible outcome if he left now would be monstrous.
"If I hadn’t seen this happen today, I’d let it go. But since I’ve seen it, I can’t just leave like this. So, will you leave this shop on your own, or should I throw you out?"
"Ha, you think you’re up to it?" The man scoffed, attempting to draw his hand back from Xu Ke’s grip to slap him and deliver a warning, yet he found that no matter how hard he pulled, his hand wouldn’t come free. Xu Ke’s hand was like an iron clamp, holding tightly to his wrist, rendering the scene awkward.
The man cursed under his breath at Xu Ke, then viciously kicked at Xu Ke, only for the kick to be caught. The leg he lowered trembled slightly.
"Will you leave on your own, or do you want me to send you out?" Xu Ke asked, smiling as he looked at the man.
The man’s face was fierce; he was just about to say something when Xu Ke cut him off again, "Don’t think about coming back for revenge when I’m not around. If I find out you trouble the mother and daughter, I won’t let it go. What you just saw was only a warm-up. You don’t want to see me go all out."
"I’m her husband, and this is our private matter between husband and wife. What does it have to do with you, an outsider? By getting involved, you’re a shameful third party, and I could even take you to court and put you in jail for being a disgraceful homewrecker," the man retorted, unwilling to concede.
"But we are no longer married. We have already divorced," the woman said, trembling, holding her child.
The man’s eyes glared furiously at the woman upon hearing her words.
"You hear that? You’re no longer husband and wife. Any trouble they face in the future, I’ll lay at your feet and repay it double. If you don’t believe me, go ahead and try, see if I’m joking."
After saying this, Xu Ke released his grip on the man’s hand, which had turned somewhat purple from being held so tightly. It took several attempts for him to restore normal movement.
"Just you wait," the man left his parting words before rushing out the door.
The female shop owner stood in the corner of the flower shop with her child, looking at the chaos everywhere and the man’s departing silhouette. She was stunned at how easily he was driven off this time, unable to tell if her tears were from relief or heartache as they streamed down her face.
"Are you alright?" Xu Ke looked at her expression, unsure of her current state and hesitant to leave just yet.
Xu Ke’s words snapped the female shop owner back to reality. In the next moment, she bent down to him, bowing repeatedly in gratitude.
"Thank you, thank you so much for what you did today. If it weren’t for you, I really wouldn’t know what to do. That man earlier is my ex-husband, but he’s a demon, an utter menace," the female shop owner said, tears flowing uncontrollably.
