Chapter 714 - 713: Trial

Aside from being famous for his extensive collection, this entrepreneur was locally known for his romantic escapades and a considerable number of illegitimate children.
Xu Ke browsed through the online gossip, raised his eyebrows, and then followed the flight attendant’s advice to shut down his computer and wait patiently to reach his destination.
The first thing Xu Ke did after getting off the plane was to take a deep breath. The air in Holland carried a refreshing scent of flowers and grass, with a breeze that was slightly moist. It wasn’t very cold, and Xu Ke felt warm in his turtleneck sweater under a trench coat.
Online information is not always trustworthy, so Xu Ke set aside the gossip he found online, knowing there’s no faster way to gather information than getting close to the mission target directly.
Xu Ke is a man of action. As soon as he set down his luggage, he began researching ways to enter the Calvin Family, with this mission’s target being Bart Calvin.
As Xu Ke pondered over this, it seemed like even fate was assisting him. The Calvin Family published a recruitment notice—they were looking for a horse riding instructor for their child, although the number of instructors needed wasn’t specified. This detail was irrelevant to Xu Ke. After checking the time and location, he put this matter aside and went to browse the local shops. He had spotted a bakery in town yesterday selling bread in various fluffy shapes that emitted a temptingly sweet fragrance, inviting people to taste them.
Xu Ke had wanted to try the bread yesterday, but he was too full then, so he had to pass on it. Today, he came on an empty stomach, determined to try the bread.
By the time Xu Ke arrived, it wasn’t particularly early—the earliest baked bread had almost sold out. However, he was fortunate; the bread he had his eye on yesterday still had one left.
"Could you please wrap this up for me? Thank you." Fluent Dutch flowed effortlessly from Xu Ke’s mouth, even his accent was enticingly charming. Unfortunately, the person selling him the bread was a big-bearded man; had it been a woman, she might have been spellbound by Xu Ke’s allure.
Though the vendor had a big beard and a burly frame, he exuded the warm, sweet aroma of bread, matching his kind demeanor. As he wrapped up the bread for Xu Ke, he asked, "Young man, you seem unfamiliar here. Are you a tourist?"
"Not really, I plan to find a job here and settle down. I like this place so much that I want to stay in this country for a long time," Xu Ke said smoothly, without needing any preparation. His sweet words made the big-bearded man happy, smiling more kindly and proudly.
Yet within just a few more words, the big-bearded uncle was again amused by Xu Ke.
The two of them passed the bread back and forth in harmony and beauty, but this scene was abruptly ruined by a large hand that suddenly appeared out of nowhere. The hand snatched the bread from the vendor, smelled it with satisfaction, and sighed contentedly before taking a big bite and handing money to the bearded man.
"Excuse me, sir, I bought that bread first," Xu Ke said with a frown, looking at the person who was about to leave.
"So what? Just have him get you another one," the man said dismissively as he glanced at Xu Ke.
"It’s the last one," the vendor interjected.
"So what? I’ve already taken a bite out of it. Do you want it back?" the man taunted, waving the half-eaten bread in Xu Ke’s face.
"But you took what was originally mine. Shouldn’t you apologize?" Xu Ke’s brow furrowed even more, his gaze filled with annoyance as he looked at the man.
"Your bread? Does it have your name on it? Loser," the man sneered, flipping Xu Ke off before turning to leave. Xu Ke wanted to confront him, but the bearded vendor held him back.
"If you really want to blend in here, don’t mess with him. He’s a notorious local thug and knows a lot of people. If you provoke one of them, it’s like provoking all of them. They’ll keep harassing you until you leave. They’re really troublesome, so I advise you not to provoke them casually. I’ll make the bread you want especially for you; just sit on that bench over there and wait for a moment."
Whether it was because the bearded vendor was too kind or because a piece of bread wasn’t worth the trouble, Xu Ke didn’t chase after the man. Instead, he sat on the shop’s only available chair, waiting for his bread to be ready.
While eating the bread, Xu Ke thought he’d have no further encounters with that man, but surprisingly, just one day later, they met again—this time at the Calvin residence.
Xu Ke saw the man but didn’t want to engage and instead observed the other applicants. Nearly a hundred people showed up for a simple job opening, and Xu Ke wondered why there were so many people who knew how to horse ride in such a small town.
As Xu Ke was lost in thought, the man from yesterday also spotted him. Although Xu Ke didn’t want to interact, the man had other ideas.
He was surprised by the number of applicants today, which made him particularly nervous. When people get nervous, they often need to do something to relieve the tension—some drink water, others eat, and some engage in exercise or reciting things. However, this man’s way of releasing stress was different; he liked to bully people.
"Oh, it’s you again, you yellow-skinned monkey. Do you even know how to ride a horse to be applying here? Aren’t you Orientals fond of riding merry-go-rounds? Later when it’s a real horse, don’t wet your pants in fright," the man stood with his hands on his hips, dressed in what seemed like his most elegant outfit from his wardrobe, and taunted Xu Ke.
God knows from which era the clothing was, but on the man, it gave him the appearance of an old-time nobleman’s groom. With such a self-satisfied look, Xu Ke couldn’t help but find the sight amusing.
"Yellow-skinned monkey? And what about you? A flashy great ape?" Xu Ke retorted with a smile.
Xu Ke’s demeanor and tone didn’t come across as mockery, so the man was initially puzzled. However, the surrounding laughter soon clued him in, and replaying Xu Ke’s words in his head, the man’s mind went blank. He no longer cared about anything—he only wanted to crush the person who mocked him.
