I waited until the screen showed all green on the docking screen as the docking arms of the Iridescence secured the Verlandi in place.
I powered down the engines and unlocked the docking ramp before I got off the pilot’s seat to exit the cockpit.
The rest of the girls were already waiting for me outside and we got on the ramp to leave the ship.
Amber, as always, was already waiting at the bottom of the ramp for me, somehow having docked her ship and running all the way here just to receive us when we disembarked.
"Ahhhnn~ I missed you, Tera~" She giggled, running up to hug my arm as soon as I stepped onto the hangar.
"It hasn’t even been an hour..." I pointed out.
"I still missed you though~ Ehehehe~"
I patted her head while leading the group back into the ship with the luggage that we had packed for this trip which turned out to be unnecessary.
"Renata, how’s the Zwerger?" I asked the Eldritch maid walking a step behind me.
"He’s docking right now, Daddy."
"Good. Once his ship is secured, start the Travel Drives and set a course for the forge station."
"Aye aye, Daddy!"
Ries skipped over to me, "Will the Zwerger be coming aboard the ship as well, Daddy?"
"Ah, he declined. He said he would just stay on his ship instead of imposing on us. He felt bad that he was already making us escort him to the station so he said he would deal with his own stuff himself. The trip wouldn’t take that long anyway so it’s not a big deal."
His ship looks big enough to have his own room anyway and he should be used to long hauls like this so I don’t feel bad for making him stay there.
As we walked through the cargo bay, Renata spoke up from behind again.
"Daddy? Umm... We got a couple of ships flying in and they are hailing us right now."
I stopped and turned to her, "What? Are they Zwergers from the mining station? Do they forget something?"
"Unn... They didn’t come from the direction of the station, Daddy. They flew towards us from outside."
"Let’s get to the bridge then."
I rushed in the direction of the bridge ahead of my girls and stepped into the bridge where a blue haired Renata was already sitting in the pilot’s seat, waiting for my order.
Taking my place at the Captain’s chair, I answered the hail and a screen popped up in front of me showing a Zwerger I did not recognise staring back at me.
He was also wearing a military uniform but it was of a different colour and the insignia emblazoned on it was different from the one I’ve seen the other Zwergers wear.
I’m going to guess that these guys are the opposing side on the civil war...
Speaking of which... I wonder which side was fighting on the side of the current government? And what are they even fighting for?
The Zwerger glared at me, "You... A human? What are you doing here?"
I pretended to be confused, "What are you talking about? Why can’t I be here?"
"Are you not aware of what is happening here? You do know that there’s a civil war going on here right now, do you?"
"Eh? What’s going on? I don’t know anything."
"Tsk... As expected of outsiders. Whatever, it doesn’t matter. You’re just unlucky to come across us right now so hand over your Credits and your cargo and we will let you leave in one piece."
I frowned at his threat, "You’re... Pirates?"
"Wait, you really don’t know anything huh? Then yes, we are pirates. Hurry up and send it. Our weapons are armed and we’re not afraid to use them to get you to cooperate!"
"That’s not right... You guys are wearing uniforms... What kind of pirate would have a uniform like that? Last I checked, there were no details about pirate sightings in this area on the Merc network... Who are you guys, really?"
"Bitch, are you hard of hearing or something?! I said send us all the Credits you have on hand right now if you don’t want to get blown up!!"
Well... Maybe I should just reveal the fact that I already know who they are... Especially since Lea had turned to nod at me while seated in front of her weapons console...
Looking at the map at the side, I see that all of them were simply B Class ships, probably just a patrol group or a reconnaissance group that just so happened to fly here.
Since they didn’t say anything about the mining station, they must not be aware of its existence given that it was deep inside the asteroid field where most sane ship captains would not fly through if they did not have to.
Guess they really are just unlucky or lucky to have met us.
I cleared my throat, "Well... I lied. I know that there’s a civil war here and you guys are on one side of the war. The only question is what are you fighting for?"
The Zwerger clucked his tongue at me, "So you already know huh... Then I have another question for ya... What are you doing here? There’s nothing here for the likes of you so for what reason are you even here?"
"Why? Is there a problem with me being here? Can’t I just tour around this place? Is there a rule that specifically states that I can’t be here?"
"You don’t seem to understand that your position has not changed, missy. We’re not going to stop robbing you just because you figured that out."
I frowned at him, "So you’re no different from pirates then? Is this just your stance or does your side simply not care about neutral parties at all?
The Zwerger let out a bark of laughter, "Hahahaha!! I see! You know that there’s a civil war but you don’t know why there even is one to begin with, do you?! Well I’ll tell you missy!! Our side is sick of our stupid government always trying to butter up to the UTG!! You stupid humans take all the good guns and give us the bare minimum in exchange!! If we were to take over this government, we will guarantee that our Zwerger empire will always have the biggest and best guns!!"
Ok... So that’s all I needed to know then... These guys are definitely not who we want to win in this civil war.
I let out a sigh, "There’s one thing you should know though..."
He raised an eyebrow, "What? You want to beg for mercy? I will consider it if you surrender that ship to us and agree to be our sex slaves!!"
What’s with Zwergers and sex slaves? I thought they like big guns so why is it they keep asking for that? Are they ok?
Oh wait... They have a thing for humans, I forgot.
Anyway...
I grinned at them, "You didn’t scan our ship at all, did you?"
"Why would we bother scanning your shi--"
He paused as another screen popped up at the corner of his vision.
"Squad leader!! They’re contracted Mercs!!"
"Lea."
That single word was enough as the guns on our ship swivelled towards their targets and fired.
In an instant, three quarters of their ships were taken out without them being able to do anything, their shields not even enough to defend their ships against our main cannons.
Our secondary guns then came to life, the medium autocannons quickly shredding through half of the remaining ships.
The others spun their ships around, trying to get away from the hail of gunfire but at this distance, even the automated firing systems would be able to shoot them down easily, much less having Lea aim at them herself.
In just a few seconds, the entire patrol was wiped out with none of them being able to beg for mercy or run away, their ships now nothing but wrecks floating in the darkness of space.
They really didn’t expect us to fight back, huh?
I called up the transport ship captain and his nervous face popped up on the screen.
"I assume you saw what happened?"
He nodded, "I have to thank you once again for helping us deal with them... But if they already sent ships here... This place might no longer be safe for us... They might be planning to attack this sector as well! We have to warn the others!"
Well... I honestly think it was just a fluke that they even came here but what do I know?
The only thing I am concerned about is if they would be paying us for those kills we made? Or did we just work for free?
As though reading my mind, the Zwerger immediately assured me, "Don’t worry, since you are a contracted Merc, you will be properly compensated for those bastards you shot down."
Oohhh~ I smell Credits~
