I messaged the other girls about what Feng had told us before looking at Yumiko and Renata.
"What should we do now?" I asked.
Yumikoâs tail wagged faster, "We might as well make use of the facilities, Mistress?"
I raised an eyebrow at her, "Youâre suggesting we gamble?"
"Has Mistress not gambled before?"
"I have but... Donât you know the saying that the house always wins?"
"Iâm sure Mistress would win more!"
I donât know where she even got that idea from because I know for sure the girls have not told her about my weird luck with gambling.
Which meant that she actually came to that conclusion herself somehow...
Renata also nodded, "I think Daddy will win a lot too!"
I shook my head, "Nah... Iâm good. Iâve found that gambling is more trouble than its worth."
"Eh? Wouldnât it only be a problem if you lose?"
"Not really. If you win as well, the people in charge would also start giving you problems just because of that. And since weâre trying to sell our stuff to this guy, Iâd rather they not have a reason to screw us over before we make the sale."
"Hmm... Well... I guess that makes sense. Then maybe we can join the others in shopping for supplies?"
Well, I guess since we donât have anything else to do... Might as well? Maybe we might even find something that is worth buying here, as unlikely as that might be.
We left the area and another of those streetwalkers tried to proposition me for paid sex again but I declined her before we went back up the stairs and back into the alley again.
The same guy we had seen was still seated across the door outside and he was still busy trying to ignore us so we just left the alley and entered the streets once again to join the dinner crowd.
It seems like there were less people than before though the reason for it was because most of them were already in a store which left the streets less crowded than earlier.
At least we donât need to squeeze with the crowd to get anywhere now.
"Hungry?" I asked a little redundantly.
Yumiko immediately made a face, "Iâm not going to be able to eat anything outside of your food anymore, Mistress."
On the other hand, Renata perked up at my words, "Oh! Can I eat that building, Daddy?!"
"Please donât eat anything that doesnât belong to us..."
"Hmmm? That ship engine I ate didnât belong to us though?"
"Thatâs because the owners of that ship were our enemies."
"Ohhhh~ So I can eat stuff that belongs to our enemies too?"
"... You know what? Sure."
"Yayyyy~"
So cute.
I cleared my throat, "Ahem... So where should we go to buy stuff? Youâre the one whoâs more familiar with the place, Yumiko."
"Right this way, Mistress!"
She seemed really excited for some reason to the point her tail was wagging very obviously behind her.
I wanna touch it...
I was so distracted by it that I almost crashed into her when she suddenly stopped and turned around.
"Here we are, Mistress. Honestly, thereâs not much here though so donât expect much."
I looked up and found myself looking at rows of shophouses on both sides of the street, all of them having that dieselpunk vibe with the grease, pipes and the smell of oil.
Even the shopkeepers around here were wearing the overalls with those goggles strapped on their foreheads or over their eyes.
It didnât have that same feeling earlier since we were all packed together in the crowd and that gambling den certainly had different aesthetics as compared to the rest of the station.
But now that Iâm looking at it directly, it certainly feels like I have stepped into a different universe again.
I went over to the first store that was closest to us just to see what they were selling and I was met with a rather familiar spread of energy cells.
Guess despite the dieselpunk aesthetics, they were also using the same things as everyone else.
The storeowner, a rather gruff looking man, scowled at us, "Not for sale to outsiders, Maâam. Energy cells are precious enough to us as it is."
I raised an eyebrow at the guy, "So you donât sell these to outsiders?"
"Yes. So if youâre looking for energy cells, youâll have to get them elsewhere."
"Any reason why?"
"Look around you, missy. Does it look like the station makes use of energy cells? Weâre stuck with tech thatâs several decades out of date. The only way you can get energy cells to power any modern devices is if you order them personally to be delivered here. And that cost money."
"Then that means thereâs at least some supply of them, right? Why canât we buy them, then?"
"Like I said, these things are already considered premium stuff here. We have a rule that any energy cells we have, theyâre only sold to people living here."
And I guess I donât need to ask him how he knew for sure we werenât locals of this station considering how different our clothes were.
Great... So even the stuff thatâs being displayed around here might not even be for sale.
I turned to look at Yumiko and she shrugged, "Iâm usually not the person who buys stuff here. And even if we do buy stuff, itâs with the merchant we met just now, not the local stores."
Hmm... Well... At this point I already figured out that Feng is most likely a black market merchant with him being in charge of the gambling, prostitution and the arms trade all in one within this station. So I guess it made sense that outlaws like Yumikoâs crew would also do their business with other outlaws.
That brought another question...
I left the store and initiated a call with Amber, the call only needing to ring twice before she answered.
"Tera! Do you need help? Where are you? Iâll come to you right away!"
"Iâm fine, Amber. I just wanted to check on how you girls are doing? Any problems with getting supplies? Anything that we need that we canât get?"
She giggled, "Ehehehe~ No problems here at all, Tera~ Weâre able to stock our crucial supplies completely~"
"Even energy cells?"
"Hmm? Of course?"
Huh... Was that other guy lying to us? Or I guess Amber went to the part of the station that was selling stuff specifically to outsiders I guess?
Well, as long as we have them then. Although it wouldnât be a problem even if we didnât get them here since we still have spares.
"What about you, Tera? You said the sales of our loot will take some time right? Are you doing anything right now?"
"Yumiko suggested we just take a look around the station to see if thereâs anything we can buy as well. We found a row of stores but I found out that the energy cells are supposedly reserved for the locals and not sold to outsiders because of how rare they are here."
"Ohhh... That might explain why that guy wouldnât... Err... Nevermind."
I raised an eyebrow at her, "Wouldnât what?"
"Nothing, Tera~ Nothing for you to worry about~ Oh! We found synthfood! Do you want us to stock up on synthfood?"
"Oh, yes please. Especially if they have the synthsawdust flavoured ones. Iâm running low on those."
"Ehehehe~ Weâll find them. Iâll be hanging up now, Tera~ Love you!"
"Mmm... Love you too, Amber."
We ended the call and I turned back to my two companions who were just looking at me oddly.
"What?" I asked.
"Nothing, Mistress... Should we continue? Although we might get the same answer as the first store though..."
I shrugged, "No harm looking around, right? Itâs not like we have places we need to be anyway."
I then peeked behind us furtively, "Especially when we have someone following us."
Thatâs right... That guy thought he was slick but I noticed him getting up from his seat out of the corner of my eye when we left Fengâs place.
I was talking about the guy who had been âwatchingâ the door at the entrance of Fengâs place of course. It seems like he has been following us at a distance ever since we left that place.
Admittedly, that was also part of the reason why I agreed to Yumikoâs suggestion about going out shopping instead of heading directly back to our ship.
The problem isnât so much as to him following us but more of why he was even stalking us to begin with.
Feng already showed he knew where our ship was berthed at so why would this guy need to follow us? Is he trying to get something from us or is he waiting for something to happen?
Yumiko smiled at me, "So you noticed as well, Mistress? Should we just take him out?"
"Letâs just lead him around for a while more before we lose him. How about that?"
"That certainly sounds fun~ Letâs do that~"
Alright then, letâs see what the next shop sells~
