My second great-granduncle was involved in a horrific train accident in 1871 in which he suffered disfiguring injuries to his face and skull and lost his left arm. Severely disabled, he didn’t return to practicing law for two years. He never married. This story and the ones to come in the For All My Relations series of time travel stories are the only thing I can do to make sense of their losses. I write these For All My Relations. Annie Warner, longtime genealogy buff, back from a surreal travel through time to save her second great-grandmother’s life, resumes her favorite hobby of genealogy. Only weeks after her return, she reads an obituary that tugs at her heartstrings. Her great-granduncle, John Morrison, a prominent attorney in Lisbon, Ohio, with a distinguished career spanning thirty years passes away of old age in 1919 at the age of 82. Eulogies from his former students and colleagues abound, and his obituary is long, taking up several pages in the local newspaper. Everyone should be so lucky to live such a long life and be so well regarded! Except for two paragraphs in the obituary. One notes that John Morrison “met with a serious railroad accident in which he barely escaped with his life. The bones of his face were broken, his skull fracture, his nose broken, and his left arm severed from his body.” The second passage that hurts Annie to the core and “Mr. Morrison never married. and ” Were Great Uncle John’s injuries so disfiguring that he couldn’t find romance, couldn’t allow a woman to see the damage? Or did he just enjoy bachelorhood? Something tells Annie the latter wasn’t the case. What if she could travel back in time and stop him from getting on the train? She has traveled through time before. Can she do it again? Can she save John, thereby ensuring that along with his fulfilling career, he marries and has a family, leaving the world his legacy? Annie doesn’t know if she can travel through time again nor does she know if the love of her life, Danny Douglas, still struggling to believe that her first time traveling adventure was real, will believe her if she manages to save her second great-granduncle.
