maters on behalf of the Academic council.

Item No: 4 To consider the laecommendations of the Faculty of Medicine made
at its meetings held on 04.02.2009, 09.01.2010, 12.5.2010/
21.8.2010 & 02.12.2010
The proposal for separate budget allocation for Intensive Care Unit of
Department of Anaesthesiology. The substantial increase in patients turnover in
ICU over the last few years was sincerely appreciated and considering the
regular wear & tear of the costly equipments, the members unanimously
recommended that a separate budget should be allocated to the ICU. There
should be a 10% of the total cost of the equipments present in ICU as
maintenance grant per annum.
Further it was emphasized that there are certain items which are
mandatory for patients management & are not available for sale over the
counter. These items should be readily available in the ICU as these are at
times life saving. Hence funds should be allocated for purchase of these items.

The proposal for increase in the teaching staff of the department. The
much cherished goal of any medical institution is to achieve excellence in clinical
productivity, implementation of educational programs and undertaking good
research work. There has been a nearly 50% increase in work load over the last
7 years which has lead to great disparity in work load & teaching staff position.
This matter is to be taken up with authorities on priority basis.

(ii) The Diploma in Anesthetic Assistance (DAA) course may be upgraded
to Degree course (B.5c in Anaesthetic Assistance) in due course of time to
enhance its academic credibility.

1. The proposal submitted by Dr. 5. Moied Ahmed, Reader, Department of
Anaesthesiology and Incharge of ICU to start one year fellowship program in
Critical Care in the Department of Anaesthesiology.
Name of Course: Fellowship in Critical Care Medicine
Duration: One year
Governing Body: Aligarh Muslim University & Indian Society of Critical
Care Medicine.
No. of Seats: Two (2)
Eligibility: Senior Resident with two years of experience as
Senior Residency
Selection criteria: Academic performance in the MBB5 course and
Postgraduate degree/ Diploma in Anaesthesiology.
Financial implications: There shall be no extra financial implications to the
university as the third year Senior Resident will continue as fellow in the
Critical Care Medicine.
The possibility of starting such course was discussed in detail and
decided that senior resident should be eligible to pursue the course during the
last year of their senior residency. The selection shall be on the basis of their
overall performance in their academic career starting from 1 yr. MBB5.

1. The proposal to change in the name of Department of Plastic Surgery be
as follows:

"Department of Plastic surgery"
To
"Post Graduate Department of Burns, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery"

Reasons:
a) The department is involved in teaching of Post M.5. (Surgery) degree;
hence the word 'Post Graduate' should be incorporated.
b) The Department is actively- involved in treatment of around 1200Burn
cases per year, the 'Burn' word should be incorporated because with
additional grants from UGC, the Burn treatment facilities including ICU,
OT's can be improved for the management of Burn cases, thereby
improving the plight of these Burn, Patient, most of them coming from
poor socio-economic status.
c) MCI recommends awards of M.Ch. degree in "Plastic and Reconstructive
Surgery", hence these words should be incorporated in the name of the
department as at other places as follows:
(i) PGMER, Chandigarh :Post Graduate Department of
Plastic Surgery.
