Editors
Mohamed Mostafa A. Azim  earned  his  BSc in
electrical engineering from Cairo University, Giza,
Egypt, in 1994; his MSc jointly from the Fontys
University, Eindhoven, the Netherlands, and the
Eindhoven University of Technology, Eindhoven,
the Netherlands, in 1997; and his PhD in computer
sciences from Tohoku University, Sendai, Japan, in
2006. He is an associate professor of e lectronics tech-
nology, Beni-suef University, Beni-suef, Egypt. In 2008, he joined the
College of Computer Science and Engineering at Taibah University,
Tayba, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. In 2012, he became the chair of
the Networks and Communication Systems Department. Dr. Azim
has authored the book, Optical Networks: A Restoration Perspective with
Active Restoration. He has also authored several research papers in the
most reputed journals and presented them at conferences. He is a work-
ing group member of the IEEE 1903 standard on Next-Generation
Service Overlay Networks (NGSON). He is on the editorial boards of
the International Journal of Sensor and Related Networks and International
Journal of Communication Networks and Information Security (IJCNIS).
His current research interests include network modeling and simulation,
routing and security protocols for wireless sensor networks and wireless
multimedia sensor networks, and optical networks survivability.

Xiaohong Jiang earned his BS, MS, and PhD in
1989, 1992, and 1999, respectively, from Xidian
University, Xi’an, China. He is currently a full
professor at Future University, Hakodate, Japan.
Before joining Future University, Dr. Jiang was
an associate professor at Tohoku University from
February 2005 to March 2010. He was an assistant
professor at the Graduate School of Information
Science, Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology
(JAIST), from October 2001 to January 2005. Dr. Jiang was a JSPS
(Japan Society for the Promotion of Science) postdoctoral research
fellow at JAIST from October 1999 to October 2001. He was a
research associate in the Department of Electronics and Electrical
Engineering, University of Edinburgh, from March 1999 to October
1999. Dr. Jiang’s research interests include computer communica-
tions networks, mainly wireless networks and optical networks;
interconnection networks for massive parallel computing systems;
routers/switches design for high-performance networks; and network
security. He has published over 230 technical papers in premium
international journals and presented at conferences, including over
30 papers published in top IEEE journals and top IEEE conferences,
such as IEEE/ACM Transactions on Networking, IEEE Journal of
Selected Areas on Communications, and IEEE INFOCOM. Dr. Jiang
was the winner of both the Best Paper Award and the Outstanding
Paper Award of IEEE WCNC 2012, IEEE WCNC 2008, IEEE
ICC 2005-Optical Networking Symposium, and IEEE/IEICE
HPSR 2002. He is a senior member of IEEE and also a member
of the Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication
Engineers.
Contributors
Rania Ahmed Abul-Seoud earned her BSc in
communications and electronics engineering from
Fayoum University, Fayoum, Egypt, in 1998, her
MS in artificial intelligence from the Faculty of
Computer Engineering at Fayoum University in
2005, and her PhD in biomedical engineering, arti-
ficial intelligence, and its applications to biomedi-
cal informatics from Fayoum University in 2008. She is the author
of several research papers published in highly reputable journals and
conference proceedings. Her current research interests are artificial
intelligence and its different applications, biomedical informatics, and
routing and security protocols for wireless sensor networks.
Ozgur B. Akan earned his PhD in electrical

and computer engineering from the Broadband
and Wireless Networking Laboratory, School of
Electrical and Computer Engineering, Georgia
Institute of Technology, Atlanta, Georgia, in 2004.
He is currently a full professor with the Department
of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Koc
University, Istanbul, Turkey, and the director of the Next-Generation
and Wireless Communications Laboratory. His  current research

interests are wireless communications, nanoscale and molecular com-
munications, and information theory. He is an associate editor of
the IEEE Transactions on Communications, the IEEE Transactions on
Vehicular Technology, the International Journal of Communication Systems
(Wiley), the Nano Communication Networks journal (Elsevier), and the
European Transactions on Technology.
Muhammad Mahbub Alam earned his BS in
applied physics and electronics and his MS in com-
puter science in 1998 and 2000, respectively, from
the University of Dhaka, Dhaka, Bangladesh. He
earned his PhD from the Department of Computer
Engineering, Kyung Hee University, South Korea,
in 2008. Currently, Dr. Alam is working as a pro-
fessor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the
Islamic University of Technology, Gazipur, Bangladesh. His research
interests include wireless and mobile networking and performance
modeling and analysis of networking systems.
Raghied Mohammed Atta earned his BSc in
electronics and communications engineering from
the Faculty of Engineering, Cairo University,
Cairo, Egypt, his MSc in signal processing from
the Faculty of Electronic Engineering, Menoufia
University, Menouf, Egypt, in 1992, and his PhD
from the Department of Engineering, University
of Cambridge, Cambridge, UK. Currently, he is an associate profes-
sor in the Electrical Engineering Department, Engineering College,
Taibah University, Madinah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Guilin Chen earned his BS in mathematics from

Anhui Normal University, Wuhu, China, in 1985,
and MS in computer applications from Hefei
University of Technology, Hefei, China, in 2007.
Dr. Chen is currently a professor in the School
of Computer and Information Engineering at
Chuzhou University, Chuzhou, China. His main research interests
include cloud computing, the Internet of Things, and big data.
