Preface
These proceedingsreporton the state of the art in the research on Web and Wireless
GeographicInformationSystems,aspresentedatthe14thW2GISSymposiuminGreno-
ble,inMay2015.RecentdevelopmentsinWebtechnologiesandadvancesinwireless
Internetaccesshavegeneratedanincreasinginterestinthecapture,processing,analy-
sis,anddiffusionofonlinegeo-referenceddatainandabouttheWebenvironment.Until

ternetnowofferwaysofaccessingandanalyzingonlinegeo-spatialinformation.These
developmentsweretheprimarysubjectofthissymposiumseries.Thisserieshasbeen
capturingthedevelopmentsinW2GISsinceitsearliestdays.AlternatingbetweenAsia,
Europe,andNorthAmerica,thesymposiahavebroughttogetherresearchersfocusing
on the technologicaland computationalaspects of W2GIS, as well as on the human–
computerinteractionanddynamicsaffordedbythisnewtechnology.Overtime,W2GIS
hasevolvedintoamaturefieldofresearchandthissymposiumserieshasbecomeone
ofitsprincipalannualmeetings.
The14thconferenceoftheW2GISSymposiumwasheldinGrenoble,France,and
hostedbytheGrenobleUniversity.Intotal,43researcherscontributedbytheirworkto
the W2GIS2015Symposium.Inan elaboratepeer-reviewprocess,12originalpapers
wereselectedfortheirhighqualityforsingle-trackoralpresentations,outofatotalof
19submissions.Eachpaperwasreviewedbyatleasttwo(mostoftenthree)anonymous
reviewers.SelectedpaperscoverhottopicsrelatedtoW2GISincludingspatiotemporal
data collection,processingandvisualization,mobileusergeneratedcontent,semantic
trajectories,location-basedWebsearch,Cloudcomputing,andVGIapproaches.
ManypeoplehavecontributedtothesuccessoftheW2GIS2015Symposium.First
of all, we thank the authors for their excellent contributions and the members of the
ProgramCommittee for carefullyreviewingtheir submissions.Second,the LocalOr-
ganizersfromtheGrenobleUniversitysignificantlycontributedtothesmoothrunning
ofthesymposiumandaveryamicableatmosphere.WethankProf.MarkGrahamfrom
the Oxford Internet Institute and Prof. Johannes Schöning from the ICT research in-
stituteofHasseltUniversityfordeliveringengagingandstimulatingkeynotespeeches.
We havebeen stimulatedto thinkcritically aboutthe broaderimpactof the wealth of
dataheldbytheWeb,andbytheiruseinubiquitousinformationsystems.Theseviews
addedtremendouslytoabroaderperspectiveonthecurrentresearchinthefieldofWeb
andWirelessGeographicInformationSystems.
We are lookingforward to the exciting developmentsof the field, which we hope
willbepresentedinthefutureeditionsoftheW2GISSymposium.
