with my, seemingly endless, suggestions for revisions. Thanks are also due to a
number of employees from the Water Development Department in Cyprus, who
read the original draft of the book and provided me with an interdisciplinary feed-
back that enriched my understanding of scientific and policy water related issues.
I am grateful to my colleagues at the University of Reading and University College
London in the UK, with whom I was affiliated when I started working on this book,
as well as my current colleagues at the Athens University of Economics and Business
