SWI-PrologisacomprehensiveandportableimplementationofthePrologprogramming
language. SWI-Prolog aims to be a robust and scalable implementation supporting a
widerangeofapplications. Inparticular,itshipswithawiderangeofinterfacelibraries,
providinginterfacestootherlanguages, databases, graphicsandnetworking. Itprovides
extensive support for managing HTML/SGML/XML and RDF documents. The system
isparticularlysuitedforserverapplicationsduetorobustsupportformultithreadingand
HTTP server libraries. SWI-Prolog is designed in the ‘Edinburgh tradition’. In addition
totheISOPrologstandarditislargelycompatibletoQuintus,SICStusandYAPProlog.
SWI-PrologprovidesacompatibilityframeworkdevelopedincooperationwithYAPand
instantiatedforYAP,SICStusandIF/Prolog. SWI-Prologaimsatprovidingagooddevel-
opmentenvironment,includingextensiveeditorsupport,graphicalsource-leveldebugger,
autoloadingand‘make’facilityandmuchmore. SWI-PrologeditorandthePDTplugin
for Eclipse provide alternative environments. This document gives an overview of the
features,systemlimitsandbuilt-inpredicates.
