£2million for the South Dorset Ridgeway.
These funds will help protect and restore the things
that make the South Dorset Ridgeway so special to its
communities.
There are a number of important historical features
present within this area. Among them are Maiden Cas-
tle, Hardy’s Monument, the Osmington White Horse,
and the Nine Stones.
There are also a further 350 Scheduled Ancient Mon-
uments, and recent research has created the belief that
there could be as many as 1,000 Bronze Age round (cid:2) THEAdonis Blue Butterfly is found at several
barrows in the Ridgeway area. And within this area locations along the Ridgeway

twelve sites of specific scientific interest, the Valley

ture conservation importance, and regionally impor-
tant geological sites such as Portesham Quarry.
An initial Landscape Partnership meeting was held
in September with potential partners to the project.
Many good ideas were put forward but there is still
ample opportunity to feed into the development of the
bid.
Some of the projects put forward so far would almost
certainly offer exciting opportunities for both residents
and visitors to get involved with restoration and inter-
