Год спустя к ним добавились 11 и 17 дивизии. Первой серьезной операцией где были массово задействованы десантники была операция Торч в Северной Африке. 15 ноября 1942 года, - 503-й парашютно-деснтный полк после удачной атаки занимает аэродром близ населенного пункта Тебесса в Тунисе.9-10 июля 1943 года — операция «Эскимос»: в ходе битвы за Сицилию парашютисты высаживаются в районе Сиракуз. В результате длившейся четыре дня высадки десанта парашютисты понесли самые большие потери за всю войну.Десантники имели на вооружении винтовки Гаранд М1 и легкие карабины М1Carbine , пистолеты-пулеметы Томпсона и М3 , пулеметы Браунинга , 60мм минометы. Кроме того весь состав поголовно был вооружен пистолетами Кольт М1911.
