Dear Friends and Fellow Collectors,
Looking back on my almost 30-year career in the collectibles business makes me smile. I’m blessed to have turned my
passion into a business, to become friends with so many of you, to meet many of the creative geniuses whose stories
I’ve enjoyed, and to simply have fun. I will remain forever grateful for your support, business, and friendship, none of
which are taken for granted. Please know that my partner and I, and the entire ComicConnect team, are always working
diligently to improve all aspects of our business for our valued customers.
The art and comic market are on fire and, I believe, will continue to be robust areas for collectors as well as investors
for decades to come. The world is catching on to what you and I have known since we were kids. Comics are cool.
The stories are amazing and the fantastic art should be held in the same esteem as “fine art” as a collectible and as an

AMAZING SpIDER-MAN

The cover of Amazing Spider-Man 160
is a classic from Marvel’s Bronze Age.
Depicting ol’ Web-head desperately
clinging to a wall while his very own
Spider-Mobile races to squash him like
a bug (er...arachnid). Unfortunately for
readers, this issue would be the
Spider-Mobile’s final appearance.
With daring pencils by the great Gil Kane,
and inks by the mighty John Romita, this
is a rare opportunity to pick up an original
Amazing Spider-Man cover. Gil Kane’s
prolific output during the 1970s made
him one of the most popular artists of the
time and certainly a favorite of discerning
collectors. John Romita’s work on the
Amazing Spider-Man, having replaced
original artist and co-creator Steve Ditko,
made Spidey one of the most popular
characters in the entire comic-book
universe as well as a pop-culture icon
that is still a hot commodity today.
Nearly every image of Spidey from
the late 60s through the 70s was pure
Romita, making this piece a must have
for any true Spidey fanatic!

KLOK! Mantis, the Celestial Madonna,
leaps forth, jump-kicking a would-be mugger
square in the jaw. No matter how far the
Avengers travel, even in Vietnam, common
sense should lead one to be wary of a heavily
armed, costumed, musclebound posse
wandering a shady street in Saigon.
If you are unaware, Mantis is an interesting
character within the comic-verse, as her
colorful history spans four publishers,
Marvel, DC, Image, and Eclipse. She now
resides again with Marvel, and this piece
features a great, early appearance of the
antennaed vixen.
That said, this splash page can arguably
rival the work of the master of the Silver
Age himself, Jack Kirby. The team of Sal
Buscema and Joe Staton is one Marvel
should have taken advantage of more
often, they achieve motion expertly as
the entire scene unfolds right before your
eyes. This is a great opening to a fine
issue of the Avengers. Bids will be fast,
and bids will be furious.

Famed illustrator Michael Golden first gained
recognition in the late 1970s for his impressive
work on the action figure tie-in title Micronauts,
which showcased his flair for gripping action
scenes and a strong sense of composition. Golden
bounced around for a bit at Marvel before teaming
up with writer extraordinaire Chris Claremont, to
co-create the popular X-Men character, Rogue.
It was in the pages of Avengers Annual 10 that
the duo debuted the beloved mutant, and we here
at ComicConnect are happy to be able to offer
original pieces from this notable issue to our
clientele in our latest Event Auction.
Every collector knows that first issues, origin
stories, and first appearances are typically the
most fervently sought-after collectibles in the
business. The value of a given page or piece of
art is also driven up by the appearance of popular
characters, as well as the signature style of a
respected artist, such as Michael Golden. Given
that this page boasts several of these desirable
qualities, we expect interest and bidding for this
piece to be quite enthusiastic.
The storyline of Avengers Annual 10 concerns
a jailbreak intended to free several members of
the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, which is
eventually thwarted by the Avengers (with a little
help from the X-Men). This page places us right in
the center of the action as Rogue does battle with
Spider-Woman and Iron Man in the courtyard of
Ryker’s Island. This is an action-packed Bronze
Age page, one that has earned it’s place in
comic-book history.

In this riveting issue of the Avengers, the U.S.
government steps in and lets the team know
that there’s just too darn many of them. For
the forces of law-and-order to maintain proper
control over the assembled Avengers, some of
the heroes will have to receive their walking
papers. This pivotal issue plants the seeds of a
whole new series for Marvel, the West Coast
Avengers. Another nice tidbit about this issue,
it contains the first appearance of Scott Lang,
Tony Stark introduces the future Ant-Man
whilst installing new front-door security to
Avenger’s Mansion.
Featured on this fantastic page of original
comic-book art are Beast, Wonder Man,
Yellow Jacket, Wasp, and Vision. The Vision
and Beast say goodbye to Wonder Man,
while Wasp and Yellow Jacket rejoice over
having more free time together, I bet most
spouses wished their partners would react
this way when they get laid off.
This piece was a collaborative effort
brought to you by the master Marvel artists
John Byrne and Gene Day, who were both
prolific craftsmen during the Bronze Age.
While the art is perfectly rendered and
indicative of the era, the subject matter and
significance of this piece is priceless.
