Director’s message

It gives me immense pleasure to present the first annual report of IIT Bhilai (2016-17). IIT Bhilai was
inaugurated on August 7, 2016 by the Hon’ble Minister of HRD, Government of India, and the Hon’ble
Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh.

The IIT (Amendment) Act 2016 was published in August 2016, and IIT Bhilai became an autonomous
institute under this act.

The appointment of the director was made in January 2017, and I assumed the responsibilities in March
2017.

IIT Bhilai is the youngest Institution among 23 IITs. The first batch of undergraduate students were
admitted in 2016, and the post-graduate students in 2017. The main focus of IIT Bhilai is to prepare the
young individuals to become the professional leaders of tomorrow by imparting cutting-edge technical
skills and knowledge, so that they can take on the real-life challenges in the future with confidence and
maturity. IIT Bhilai is striving for research-driven undergraduate and postgraduate education. Our
objective is to create an education system with multifaceted outcomes, including research,
entrepreneurship, technical leadership, and above all, responsible citizenship.

It will be also our endeavour to rapidly create our new campus in Bhilai with world-class research and
education facilities, to engage in collaboration with the industry leaders, academic institutions, and
government organizations, and to provide avenues for bright future to the aspirations of the young
students.

On behalf of the institute, I wish to thank the MHRD and the government of Chhattisgarh for realizing
the dream of establishing the IIT Bhilai. This will certainly give the region an opportunity to excel in the
area of science and technology. I also take the opportunity to thank IIT Hyderabad for the wonderful
mentorship and their continued support to IIT Bhilai.

तिदेशक का संदेश
मुझे भारतीय प्रौद्योगिकी संस्थान गभलाई 2016-17 की पहली िागषशक प्रगतिेिन प्रस्तुत करते हुए बहुत खुशी हो रही है।
भा.प्रौ.सं. गभलाई का उि्घाटन माननीय मंत्री, मानि संसाधन गिकास मंत्रालय, भारत सरकार एिं माननीय मुख्यमंत्री,
छत्तीसिढ़ शासन द्वारा 7 अिस्त 2016 को गकया िया।
भारतीय प्रौद्योगिकी संस्थान (संशोधन) अगधगनयम 2016, अिस्त 2016 में प्रकागशत गकया िया और भा.प्रौ.सं. गभलाई को इस
अगधगनयम के अंतिशत एक स्वायत्त संस्थान का िजाश गमला।
गनिेशक की गनयुप्तक्त जनिरी 2017 में की ियी थी और मैंने मािश 2017 को कायशभार ग्रहण गकया।
23 भारतीय प्रौद्योगिकी संस्थानो ंमें से भा. प्रौ.सं. गभलाई संस्थान सबसे निीन संस्थान है। स्नातक के पाठ्यक्रम हेतु प्रथम बैि ने
2016 में एिं स्नातकोत्तर के पाठ्यक्रम हेतु प्रथम बैि ने 2017 में प्रिेश गलया। भा.प्रौ.सं. गभलाई का मुख्य उद्देश्य युिाओ ंको
अत्याधुगनक तकनीकी कौशल और ज्ञान प्रिान करके , भगिष्य में पेशे की महारत हागसल करने योग्य बनाना है।, तागक िे
आत्मगिश्वास एिं पररपक्वता के साथ भगिष्य में िास्तगिक जीिन की िुनौगतयो ंका सामना कर सकें । भा.प्रौ.सं. गभलाई अनुसंधान
संिागलत स्नातक एिं स्नातकोत्तर गशक्षा के गलए प्रयासरत् है। हमारा उद्देश्य बहुआयामी पररणामो ंके साथ एक ऐसी गशक्षा प्रणाली
बनाना है गजसमें अनुसंधान, उद्यमशीलता, तकनीकी नेतृत्व और सबसे महत्वपूणश गजम्मेिार नािररक बनाना शागमल है।
हम उद्योि जित की हप्तस्तयो,ं शैक्षगणक संस्थानो ंऔर सरकारी संिठनो ंके साथ गमलकर गिश्वस्तर के अनुसंधान और गशक्षा
सुगिधाओ ंके साथ गभलाई में अपने निीन पररसर को तेजी से बनाने और युिाओ ंके उज्जिल भगिष्य के गलए आकांक्षाओ ंके
अिसर प्रिान करने हेतु प्रयासरत् हैं।
संस्थान की ओर से, मैं मानि संसाधन गिकास मंत्रालय, भारत सरकार एिं छत्तीसिढ़ शासन को धन्यिाि करता हं गक भा.प्रौ.सं.
गभलाई को स्थागपत करने का सपना साकार हुआ। यह गनगित रूप से गिज्ञान एिं तकनीकी के क्षेत्र में उत्कृ ष्ट्ता के गलए एक
अिसर प्रिान करेिा। मैं इस अिसर पर भा.प्रौ.सं. हैिराबाि को भी उनके सतत् प्रयास एिं उत्कृ ष्ट् मेंटरगशप के गलए धन्यिाि
करता हं।

Inauguration of IIT Bhilai jointly by Shri Prakash Javedakar, Hon’ble Union Minister for Human
Resource Development, Government of India, and Shri Raman Singh, Hon’ble Chief Minister of
Chhattisgarh, on Sunday, 7th August 2016. Shri Prem Prakash Pandey, Hon’ble Minister, Skill
Development, Technical Education & Employment Department Government of Chhattisgarh, Shri
Punnulal Mohle, Hon’ble Minister, Food, Civil Supply & Consumer Protection Department, Government
of Chhattisgarh, Shri Ramesh Bais, MP, Lok Sabha (Raipur), Dr. Bhushan Lal Jangde , MP, Rajya
Sabha, Shri Ranvijay Singh Judev, MP, Rajya Sabha, Shri Ram Vichar Netam, MP, Rajya Sabha, Shri
Vivek Dhand, Chief Secretary, Government of Chhattisgarh, Shri B.V.R. Mohan Reddy, Chairman,

रगििार, 7 अिस्त 2016 को भारत सरकार के माननीय कें द्रीय मंत्री मानि संसाधन गिकास गिभाि, श्री प्रकाश
जािड़ेकर और छत्तीसिढ़ के माननीय मुख्यमंत्री श्री रमन गसंह ने संयुक्त रूप से भा.प्रौ.सं. गभलाई का उि्घाटन
गकया। इस मौके पर कई िणमान्य नािररको में छत्तीसिढ़ सरकार के माननीय मंत्री कौशल गिकास, तकनीकी
गशक्षा और रोजिार गिभाि, श्री प्रेम प्रकाश पांडे, माननीय मंत्री खाद्य, नािररक आपूगतश और उपभोक्ता संरक्षण गिभाि,
श्री पुन्नुलाल मोहले, लोकसभा सिस्य (रायपुर) श्री रमेश बैस, राज्यसभा सिस्य, डॉ भूषण लाल जांिडे, राज्यसभा सिस्य,
