3111 The purpose of this book is to introduce the reader to the current system
4 of building control in England and Wales, based on the Building Regulations
5 2010 and all the supporting Approved Documents.
6 The book starts with a brief history lesson in building control and how
7 it has developed over the years. Chapters are then devoted to the Building
8 Regulations and each of the Approved Documents. The application of
9 Building Regulation Requirements and the guidance contained in Approved
20111 Documents are discussed and illustrated in a straightforward and logical
1 manner to enable the text to be utilized as a reference source for members
2 of the design and construction team and those who require a knowledge
3 of building control. For information and reference, the actual wording of
4 each Building Regulation Requirement has been stated at beginning of each
5 chapter.
6 Since the book represents a simplification of the Building Regulations
7 and Approved Documents it should not be regarded as a replacement but
8 as a standalone support text to the original documents. For further detailed
9 advice and guidance the services of an approved inspector, Local Authority
30111 building control department or a building regulation consultancy should
1 be sought.
