Thebookpresentsrecentadvancesinsignalprocessingtechniquesformodeling,analysis,andun-
derstanding of the heart’s electrical activity during atrial fibrillation.This arrhythmia is the most
commonly encountered in clinical practice and its complex and metamorphic nature represents a
challengingproblemforclinicians,engineers,andscientists.Researchonatrialfibrillationhasstimu-
latedthedevelopmentofawiderangeofsignalprocessingtoolstobetterunderstandthemechanisms
rulingitsinitiation,maintenance,andtermination.Thisbookprovidesundergraduateandgraduate
students,aswellasresearchersandpracticingengineers,withanoverviewoftechniques,including
timedomaintechniquesforatrialwaveextraction,time–frequencyanalysisforexploringwavedy-
namics,and nonlinear techniques to characterize the ventricular response and the organization of
atrialactivity.Thebookincludesanintroductorychapteraboutatrialfibrillationanditsmechanisms,
treatment,and management.The successive chapters are dedicated to the analysis of atrial signals
recordedonthebodysurfaceandtothequantificationofventricularresponse.Therestofthebook
explorestechniquestocharacterizeendo-andepicardialrecordingsandtomodelatrialconduction.
Undertheappearanceofbeingamonothematicbookonatrialfibrillation,thereaderwillnotonly
recognizecommonproblemsofbiomedicalsignalprocessingbutalsodiscoverthatanalysisofatrial
fibrillationisauniquechallengefordevelopingandtestingnovelsignalprocessingtools.
