Youth of year honored by Niles chamber

It's no wonder why Nues resident
Melissa Anderson was chosen as
the "Youth of the Year" by the Nues
Chamber of Commerce.
The senior at Resurrection College Prep High
School is a leader at school as well as at St. John
Brebeuf Parish. She is also very involved with the Girl
Scouts of America and is ranked as a Girl Scouts Am-
bassador. She will be honored at the Nues Chamber
of Commerce's annual awards ceremony on April 27.
Q: How did you feel when you found out you won
the award?
A: I was surprised! I didn't expect it at all.
Q: What are you involved ¡n at St. John Brebeuf
Parish?
A: I'm a Eucharist minister; I serve communion to
the congregation during mass, I'm in the youth mm-
istry. In grade school I was in the children's choir and
hand bell choir. The first Sunday of every month I
teach students six through 10 about the readings of
the gospel for the day.
Q: What types of activities do you do at Resurrec-
tion school?
A: At Res, I'm the junior class vice president and
the vice president of the student council club. I'm a
student ambassador. At open houses, we're the tour
guides for the families and every so often we have
shadows for the day. I'm in a peer helping program
at resurrection. I'm part of the National Honors Soci-
ety. I played freshman volleyball and JV volleyball my
second year. Sophomore and junior year, I was on the
JV bowling team.
Q: Is it challenging being so busy and balancing
activities, or do you enjoy it?
A: I love being busy. I've been involved ever
since grade school and I love it. Melissa Anderson isthe Nues Chamber of Commerce's Youth of the Year.
