Preface
We are delighted to introduce the proceedings of the second edition of the 2019
European Alliance for Innovation (EAI) International Conference on UBIquitous
CommunicationsandNETworkComputing(UBICNET).Thisconferencehasbrought
together researchers, developers, and practitioners on one platform to discuss the
advancesinvariousfieldsofcommunication,like5Gandinterconnectedsystems.The
theme of the conference was “Global Connectivity.”
ThetechnicalprogramofUBICNET2019comprisedhighlyselective20fullpapers
fororalpresentationinthemainconferencetracks.Basically,thetrackwasarrangedin
different sessions: Security- and Energy-Efficient Computing; Software-Defined
Networks and Cloud Computing and Internet of Things Applications; and Advanced
Communication Systems and Networks. Besides the high-quality technical paper
presentations, the technical program also featured six keynote speeches and a
workshop/specialsession. Many excellentkeynotesspeechesbyexperts fromindustry
focusedonhighlychallengingobjectivesofthecountrytobuild100smartcitiesinthe
next 4 years. Various challenges on safety, security, and the time frame were also
discussed.However,convertingthesechallengesintoopportunitieswasthekeyfeature
ofdiscussiontomotivatetheaudienceandencouragethemtostartworkingtowardthis
goal. Similarly, the keynote speeches on advanced and efficient communication
systems and 5G networks for ubiquitous communication received acclamation. Many
challenges and associated opportunities were discussed. In addition, the conference
also incorporated three special sessions on dip dive into machine learning, 5G
networks, and global survivability of optical fiber networks. It can be said that the
conference was very successful.
The success was due to the well-structured coordination with the steering chair,
ImrichChlamtac.Dr.AmudaJ.andProf.Murtyhelpedustocompilethehigh-quality
technical program. The Technical Program Committee co-chair, Dr. Arpita, played an
importantroleingettingpapersreviewedontime. Specialmentionshouldbemadeof
our local chairs, Prof. Sagar B. and Prof. Sreebha B., who ensured each and every
conference requirement was properly arranged. The conference management and EAI
staff were quick in responding to the queries, which is another reason for the success
oftheconference.Wesincerely appreciate theirconstant supportandguidance.It was
also a great pleasure to work with such an excellent Organizing Committee, who
worked very hard in organizing and supporting the conference, and in particular the
Technical Program Committee. We are grateful to the conference managers,
Radka P. and Kitti Szilagyiova, for their continuous support. In addition, we are very
grateful to all the authors who submitted their papers to the UBICNET 2019
conference.
We strongly believe that the UBICNET conference provided a good forum for all
researchers, developers, and practitioners to discuss the relevant issues related to
technology, research, and development. We are sure that future editions of the
vi Preface
UBICNET conference will be as successful and stimulating as indicated by the
contributions presented in this volume.
