Introduction
The followingpaper deals with twospeciesof thegenusQuediusSTEPHENS,
l829,collectedinnorthernVietnambyDr.Shun-lobiUENo in1994.Bothweretaken
inthemountainsneartheChineseborder(Yunnan).
The firstspecies,Quedius(Microsa″t -us)zeux:Issp nov belongstothePlacidus
Groupofspecies(SMETANA,1995,49)withrepresentativesoccurringintheHimalaya,
in China (Yunnan and Sichuan), and in Taiwan. The second species, Quedius
(Raphi''us).xenosp nov belongstotheMultiptalctatusGroupofspecies(SMETANA,
1995,98)withrepresentativesoccurringintheHimalaya,JapanandinTaiwan.There-
lationshipsofthetwospecieswithintheirspecies-groupsarebrieflydiscussed.

Description. Piceouswithpalerpronotum,lateralandapicalmarginsofabdom-
inal tergites indefinitely, inconspicuouslypaler; headandpronotum indefinitely,ab-
domen appreciably iridescent. Mouthparts, palpi and legs rufo-brunneous, antennae
piceouswith first threesegments rufo-brunneous. Headof roundedshape,slightly
wider thanlong(ratio1.13),withposterioranglesentirelyobsolete,only indistinctly
narrowedposteriadbehindeyes,neckthereforeratherwide;eyesratherlarge,moder-
atelyconvex,temperadistinctlyshorterthaneyesseen fromabove(ratio0.41);noad-

oneachside;withmoderatelywide,rathershallow,subarcuatemedic-apicalcma「9ina-
ljon,small triangularareabeforeemarginationflattenedandsmooth(Fig. l).Genital
segment with lcrgile 10 markedly narrowed toward subarcuate apex. with SeVe「al

mjddleportionofthefirst twovisibleabdominaltcrgites(inQ.s/1ibataionlyasmall
middle portion of the first visible abdominal tcrgite is almost impunctate. see

onlyslightlywidenedposteriad,bothatsutureandatsides longer thanpronotumat

perate, almost confluentand forming transverse rugaetowardposteriormargin, in-

ture. Wings fully developed. Abdomen with tergite 7 (fifth visible) with distinct
whitishapicalscamofpalisade fringe:punctationofabdominal tergitesveryfineand
sparse; pubescence fine、black, but each tergitc with sparsepatch of golden and
whitish-yellow(laterally)pubescenceoneachside,andvisibletcrgitesl-4withsparse
goldenpubescenceatposteriormargin;surfacebetweenpunctureswithvery fineand
densemicrosculptureoftransversestriae.
Female. First foursegmentsoffronttarsusmarkedlydilated,sub-bilobe each
coveredwithmodifiedpalesetaeventrally;segmenttwoaboutaswideasapexoftibia;
segment、tournarrower thanprecedingsegments.Genital segmentwithsecondgono-
coxitesnarrowandlong,eachwithverysmallstylusbearingonelong,strongseta;ter-
gite10pigmentedmedic-apically,markedlynarrowedtowardnarrowlyarcuateapex,
withtwosubapicalsetae(Fig 6).

JapanandTaiwan. Itdiffers fromallot thembythemuchmorenumerouspunctures
on theheadand toa lesser extent alsoon thepronotum. In thesecharactersit isto
someextentintermediatebetweenthemembersoftheMuff!pu,lctatusGroupandthose
ofthe/1't1'l(atusGroup(SMETANA. l995.103).However,themembersofthe/nt'・icatus
Group diffcir by several characters listed in the Monophyly paragraph inSMETANA
(1.c・.);themostconspicuousofthesecharactersisthepresenceoftu、ttsofgolden-red-
dishtomentosepubescenceattheapicalmarginoftheftrstvisibleabdominaltergite.
Themetallicdarkblueappearanceoftheelytramaybeartificial.Itispossiblethat
thesurfaceoftheelytraisnormallydarkmetallicgreen,justlikethatoftheheadand

Etymology. Thespecificepithet isthenameof one, -onis,m.,anEpicurean
philosopher,anativeofAthens,activeinthefifthandearlyfourthcenturiesBC,inap-
position.

A.SMETANA: 北ヴェトナム産ツヤムネハネカクシ属の2新種. - 北ヴェトナム北西部のホ
ァンリェンソン山地からッヤムネハネカクシ属の2新種を記載し, それぞれにQuedit‘s(Mi-
crosaurus)2euxisおよびQ.(Rap加rus)xenoの新名を与えた. どちらの種も, ヒマラヤから中国南
部を経て台湾まで (後者の場合は目本まで) 分布する種群に属し, この山系の見虫相の由来を
示す証提になる.
