Abstract TwonewspeciesofthegroupofT1・echiamaon1aredescribedunderthe
namesofT kameya,na1andTsotmai,respectively, fromtheTaJimaareainthenorthern
partofHyogoPrefecture,CentralJapan.Boththespeciesarecloselyrelatedto f lotelS.
UENowhichisrecordedfrommineaditsandtheupperhypogeanzoneinthenortherntip
ofOsakaPrefecture,buttheyareclearlydistinguishedfromthelatterspeciesbytheshape
oftheaedeagaltipandthecopulatorypieceintheinnersac.
Introduction
Theanophthalmictrechine faunaofHyogoPrefecturewaswelldocumentedin
therevisionbyUENo(1985b)concerningthegroupofTrechlamaoni.Inthatrevision,
ninespeciesbelonging tothisgroupwererecorded fromHyogo. After thattwoaddi-
tionalspeciesofTrechiamaweredescribedfromthecentralandthesouthwesternparts
ofHyogo, respectively(UENo,1985c;UENo&MoRt,2000).However,aconsiderably
largeblankstillremainsinthenorthernareaofHyogo,whichiscalledtheTajimaarea.
Recently,aseriesofTrechiamaspecimenswasbrought fromtheupperhypogeanhabi-
tatsofseveral localitiesineasternTajimamainlybySoUMAandKAMEYAMA,members
oftheKansaiTrechineResearchGroup.Surprisingly,thesepopulationshavesimilari-
tiesinmanyrespectstoTnotoi(UENo,1981,p82,figs5-7,1985a,p 73,pi t4,fig.
7,1985b,pp.166,189;KITAYAMA&AsHIDA,1999,p i t)whichoccurs in themine
aditsandtheupperhypogeanzoneinthenortherntipofOsakaPrefecture,morethan
60kmdistantandtopographicallyremotefromTajima.AlthoughTnoto1wasincluded
inthekosugeicomplexofthegroupofToni,itsmalegenital featuresareremarkably
different fromalltheothermembersofthekosugeicomplex.Trechiamanoto1hasex-
tremelylargemalegenitaliawithlargeandheavilysclerotizedcopulatorypiece. The
populationsfromtheTajimaareashowbasicallysimilarcharacteristicsofmalegenital
organ,thoughclearlydifferentindetail.Inthispaper,Iamgoingtoclassifythesepop-
ulationsintotwonewspeciesandtodescribethem.

Length:6.05-6.65mmin (5,5.40-6.25mmin (fromapicalmarginofclypeus
toapicesofelytra).
Relativelylargespecieswithextremelylargeandevolvedmalegenitalia.Similar
toTnotoiS.UENoofthegroupofToni,whichwasdescribedfrommineaditslying
atthenortherntipofOsakaPrefecture,inbothexternalandmalegenitaliccharacteris-
tics,buteasilydistinguished fromthelatterspeciesbytheshapeoftheaedeaga1tip
andthecopulatorypieceintheinnersac.
Colordarkreddishbrownwithyellowishbrownappendages,usuallydarkerthan
inTnoto1.HeadsimilartothatofTnoto1,thoughsomewhatnarrower;genaelesscon-
vex;antennaesomewhatstouter; remnantofeyesdistinctbutsmall.Pronotummore
transverseandlessconstrictedbehindthaninTnotoi,widerthanlength,andwidestat

MalegenitalorganbasicallysimilartothatofTnotoi,butclearlydifferentinthe
shapeofaedeaga1tipandcopulatorypiece.Aedeagusheavilysclerotized, very large
androbust,aboutthree-eighthsaslongaselytra,withamplebasalpart,shortflattened
apical lobeandvery largeapicalorificewhoseleftwall ismuchreducedascompared
withtheright;basalpartweaklycurvedventradwith fairly largebasalorifice,whose
sidesarebrieflyemarginate;sagittalaileronnarrowandhyaline; vieweddorsally, api-
cal lobeshort,broadat thebase,rapidlynarrowedtowardsapex,andprovidedwitha
semicircularapicalprotuberancewhichiswiderthanthat ofT noto1;viewed laterally,

apicalpartabruptlynarrowedtowardsshortapical lobewhichisfeeblycurvedventrad
andlookslikeahookbyventralthickening;viewedventrally,medianpartconcavejust
beforeapex,andapicaltipprovidedwithsemitriangularplatewhoseanteriormarginis
carinateanddeeplyemarginate. Innersaccoveredwithpoorlysclerotizedscales,and
armedwithavery largecopulatorypieceandtwosmallplatesformedbyfusedteeth;
copulatorypiecevery large,elongate, four-ninthsas longasaedeagus,spatulate,and
rolledventrally,whoseleftsideissinuateatmiddleand feeblyarcuateinapicalhalf,
andtherightsideissteeplydilatedinbasaltwo-thirdsandprominentventro-latera11y
inbasalthree-fourths,andapicalpart isrounded;twoplateslyingclosetogetheratthe

Notes. Thepresentnewspeciesis foundat twolocalities,Akaganeyama(type
locality)andMorimoto,bothinthesamedrainageareaoftheTakeno-gawaRiveremp-
tyingintotheJapanSea. Thedistancebetweenthesetwolocalitiesisabout4km.Al-
thoughthepopulationfromMorimotocannotbedistinguishedfromthetypeseriesby
externalcharacteristics,itshowsaslightdifferenceintheconfigurationofthecopula-
torypiece,ofwhichtheapexismoreregularlyroundedandtheprojectionontheright
sideisalittlelonger.Atbothlocalities,Tkameyamaiwasdugout fromtheupperhy-
pogeanzoneofastreamsideatthedepthofabout20-50cm.

Length: 6.20-6.60mm in 5.70-6.30mm in (fromapicalmarginofclypeus
,
toapicesofelytra).
Closelyrelatedtotheprecedingspecies,andnotclearlydistinguished fromthat
species by external characters alone, but easily discriminatedby theshapeof the
aedeaga1tipandthecopulatorypieceintheinnersac.
Colorasin T kameyamai. Bodyexactlysimilar tothat ofT kameyama1,though
thehindbody isusually lesselongatethaninthelatter.Headas inTkameyamai;an-
tennaemoreor lessslenderer than in T kameyama1.Pronotumsomewhat less trans-

verseandalittlemorestronglycontractedbehindthanthatofT kameyamai;PW/HW
1.40-1.51(MI45),PW/PL1.08-1.18(M1.12),PW/PA t40-1.48(MI44),PW/PB

basalpartwhichisfeeblybutobviouslydivergenttowardshindangles;basemoreor

Malegenitalorganvery similar to that ofT kameyama1,butclearlydifferent in
thestructureofaedeaga1tipandinnerarmature.AedeagusasinT kameyamaiexcept
for theapicalpart;vieweddorsally,apicaltipprovidedwithasmallerapicalprotuber-
ancethanthatofT kameyama1;viewedventrally,apicalplateoval,widerthanlength,
smaller thanthatofT kameyamaibut larger thanthatofT noto1, itsanteriormargin
beingsharplycarinateandweaklyprojectingatcentralpart. Innersaccoveredwith
minutescales,andarmedwithalargecopulatorypieceandtwoteethplates;scalesas
inTkameyama1;twoteethplatesmuchsmallerthanthoseofTkameyama1,seemingly
fusedwitheachotherto formahorseshoeshape;copulatorypieceheavilysclerotize(i,

Notes. ThisnewspeciesisquitesimilartoTkameyamatandTnoto1,andsome
bodyproportionsshowintermediaterangesbetweenthoseofthelattertwospecies,but
isclearlydistinguishedbytheconfigurationofthecopulatorypiece.Thetypepopula-
tionofTsouma1wasfoundinagullynear theheadoftheItoi-gawa,oneofthetribu-
tariesoftheMaruyama-gawaRiver flowingintotheJapanSea. TheItoi-keikokuVal-
ley islocatedbetweentheknownlocalitiesofT kameyamaiandTnoto1, i.e.,23km
southeastofAkaganeyama, thetypelocalityofthe former,and64 km northwest of
ToyonoMine,thetypelocalityofthelatter.ThetypespecimensofTsoumaiweredug
out fromthecolluviadepositedinadriedriverbedandastreamsideat thedepthof
about 10-50cm.Waya,thesecondknownlocalityofT soumai, isabout6kmwest of
thetypelocality.ThespecimensfromWayaareidenticalwiththetypeseries,except
formoreorlessthickerapicalpartofthecopulatorypiece.
Discussion
Inthispaper, IdescribedtwonewspeciesbelongingtothegroupofT on1from
theTajimaareainthenorthernpartofHyogoPrefecture.Boththespeciesarevery
similar toTnoto1ofthekosuge1complex,andhavethefollowingpeculiarcharacteris-
tics incommonwiththelatter:relativelylargebody,sexualdimorphisminbodysize,
largemalegenitaliawiththeuniquemodificationoftheaedeaga1tip,andhighlydevel-
opedcopulatorypieceintheinnersac.Thesefactssuggestthat thethreespeciesare
closely relatedwithoneanother.However,theTajimaareaandtheknownlocalitiesof
Tnotoiaregeographicallyremote,andbesides,twootherspeciesofthekosugeicom-
plex,T yoshiakii(UENo,1978,p 298,figs 5-8)andTsilicicola(UENo,1981,p 79,
figs.1-4),occurbetweenthetwoareas.AlthoughTkameyama1andTsouma1should
beincludedinthekosugeicomplextogetherwithTnotoiaccordingtothepresentsys-
temofclassification(UENo,1985b),thereisaconsiderablywidegapinmorphological
featuresbetweenthethreespeciesandtheothermembersofthekosuge1complex in-
f cluding yes(cid:0)aスl a szfzcfcofa. 0nlyacandidateof intermediary is 「 tangoms

(UENo,1985b,pp.166,183,figs.15-16)fromthenortherntipoftheTangoPeninsula,
whichshowsasimilarmodificationoftheaedeaga1tiptothoseofTnoto1,Tkameya-
maiandTsouma1.InspiteoftheadjacencyoftheTangoPeninsulatotheTajimaarea,
however,Ttangentshasnoneofthepeculiaritiesofthelargebody,sexualdimorphism
inbodysize,largemalegenitaliaandhighlydevelopedcopulatorypiece.Aspointed
outbyUENo,Ttangentsshowsthemostlikelyancestraltypeofthekosugeicomplex,
becauseofpossessingthelessdevelopedcopulatorypieceandthesymmetrical lateral
wallsoftheaedeagus.Itishighlypossiblethatthetwolineages,namely,thenotoi-1ike
speciesandtheothermembersofkosugeicomplex,werederived fromacommon tan-
gents-likeancestralspecies. I havealreadyexaminedseveralundescribedspeciesof
thenotoi-1ikespeciesnot only from theTajimaareaand itsvicinity butalso from
southeasternHyogoPrefecture.Sincethenumberoftheavailablespecimenisnotsuf-
ficient fordescriptionyet,Iwilldealwiththeminnear future.Anyhow,thenotoi-1ike
specieswill show awidedistributionbeyondexpectationandmay form a distinct
species-complexinthegroupofToni.Toconfirmthishypothesis, further investiga-
tionoftheremainingblank areasinthenorthern KinkiDistrict includingTajimais
necessary.

要 約
芦田 久:但馬地方から発見されたオニメクラチビゴミムシ群の2新種. - 兵庫県北部の
但馬地方には, メクラチビゴミムシ類の記録の大きい空白地帯があった. 関西チビゴミ研究グ
ループの亀山 剛, 相馬明直の両氏によりこの地域から見いだされた盲目のナガチビゴミムシ
属を調べたところ, 南束に60km以上離れた大阪府北部の廃坑および地下浅層から記録されて
いるノトメクラチビゴミムシTli・echia,IlanotoiS.UEN0に近縁の新種であることが明らかになっ
た. 本論文ではこれらを2種に分類し, それぞれ, タケノメクラチビゴムシTkameyama1,イト
イメクラチビゴミムシTsoumaiと命名, 記載した.前者は兵庫県竹野町銅山および森本の地下
浅層に,後者は和田山町糸井渓谷および出石町上付和屋の地下浅層に生息する. いずれも, 雄
交尾器中央片の先端部の形状や,内袋中の交尾片の形状の顕著な違いにより, ノトメクラチビ
ゴミムシから容易に区別される.
