Er gibt ihr die Moglichkeit ihn nicht heiraten zu mussen, wenn sie seine Gegenratsel losen konne. Die Prinzessin vermag dies allerdings nicht und muss den Prinz heiraten – soweit die Grundstruktur des Turandotmythos. Das funfaktige Marchenspiel and “Turandot and ” schreibt Carlo Gozzi im Jahr 1762 nach fernostlicher Vorlage als eines seiner zehn and “fiabe teatrali and “. Zu deren Bewunderern zahlen Friedrich Schiller und Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. Sie setzen Gozzis and “Turandot and ” in der Bearbeitung von Schiller auf den Spielplan ihres and “Deutschen Nationaltheaters and “. Kurz nach Schillers Bearbeitung setzt auch in Deutschland ein reges Interesse an dem Stoff ein und die and “fiabe and ” tragen nicht unwesentlich zur Entstehung der deutschen Romantik bei. Doch auch die Opernbuhne entdeckt schnell den dramaturgischen Wert der verwendeten Stilmittel, die Wirksamkeit der eigentumlichen Mischung von Tragik und Komik, der Marchenstruktur und den Elementen der commedia dell’arte. So findet sich diese Theaterasthetik mit grosser Entsprechung in Emanuel Schikaneders und Wolfgang Amadeus Mozarts and “Zauberflote and ” und auch das Wiener Volkstheater um Johann Nestroy und Ferdinand Raimund kann den Einfluss der and “fiabe teatrali and ” kaum leugnen. Opern uber die mannerhassende Prinzessin komponierten u.a. Franz Danzi, Vincent Lachner, Antonio Bazzini, Ferruccio Busoni und Giacomo Puccini.
