Nicholas Tarrier is Professor of Clinical Psychology in the Department of
Clinical Psychology, School of Psychiatry and Behavioural Sciences,
UniversityofManchester.HegraduatedwithafirstclassHonoursdegree
from the UniversityofNottingham, anMSc inExperimentalPsychology
from the University of Sussex, an MSc in Clinical Psychology from the
University of Manchester and a PhD from the Institute of Psychiatry,
LondonUniversity.Hismainresearchinteresthasbeeninthepsycholog
icalandpsychosocialaspectsofpsychosis,includingthe developmentof
non-drugtreatments.OtherinterestsincludePTSDandtheevaluationof
cognitive-behavioural treatments in general. He has published seven
booksand112journalpublicationsandheisPast-Presidentofthe British
AssociationforBehaviouralandCognitivePsychotherapy.
AdrianWellsisSeniorLecturerinClinicalPsychologyintheDepartmentof
Clinical Psychology, School of Psychiatry and Behavioural Sciences,
University of Manchester. He graduated from Aston University with an
Honours degree in Behavioural Science, a PhD, and an MSc in Clinical
Psychology from Leeds University. He completed a post-doctoral
Diploma in Cognitive Therapy at the Center for Cognitive Therapy,
University ofPennsylvania, and has worked with Aaron1. Beckand the
Oxford Cognitive Therapy group in the development and evaluation of
Cognitive Therapy ofAnxiety Disorders. His main research interests are
Cognitive Theory and Therapy of Anxiety Disorders, including Social
Phobia,andGeneralisedAnxietyDisorder. Otherinterestsinclude atten
tionalprocessesinemotionaldisorder,intrusivethoughtsandmetacogni
tion. He is an award-winning author, having published two books, and
publishesextensivelyinpeerreviewjournals.
Gillian Haddock is Senior Lecturer in Clinical Psychology in the
DeparbnentofClinicalPsychology,SchoolofPsychiatryandBehavioural
Sciences, University of Manchester. She also holds an Honorary
ConsultantClinicalPsychologistappoinbnentinthementalhealthunitof
Tameside and Glossop Community and Priority Services NHS trust. She

graduated with a BSc (hons) from the University ofYork, and a Masters
and PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of Liverpool. Her
main research interests have been in assessment, treatment and psy
chopathologyofpsychosis,withparticularemphasisontheapplicationof
cognitive-behavioural treatments to psychosis. She has published two
books and a numberofjournalarticles in this area. She holds the British
Psychological Society May Davidson award for contribution to clinical
psychology in the first 10 years since qualifying and is currently Chair
Elect of the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive
Psychotherapies.
