PREFACE
The first edition of the Thesaurus for Graphic Materials was, in fact,
two separate volumes published in 1986 and 1987. The second editions were
intended to be separate volumes again. As publication plans were being made,
it became clear that the two tools are so often used together that a single volume
comprising the two separate thesauri would be more practical and cost effective.
The parts are referred to as TGM 1: Subject Terms and TGM II: Genre and
Physical Characteristic Terms. Each part retains its own introductory text,
examples, and thesauri.
