found in certain saßhit‡ and pada mss. of Ëgveda found in that library. "The most
extensive collection of Khilas is preserved in a ms. of Ëgveda saßhit‡ discovered in
Kashmir by Prof. G. BÅhler and described for the first time in his "Detailed report of a
tour in search of Sanskrit mss.", Bombay 1877, pp. 35-36. The ms. was procured for the
library of the Deccan College, Poona, which is now transferred to the Bhandarkar
Oriental Research Institute, Poona, where it is deposited at present." p. 892. "The text is
accented throughout. ... only the Ud‡tta and primary Svarita are marked. The Ud‡tta is
marked by a small vertical stroke. This kind of marking Ud‡tta is also found in the
Maitr‡yaı„ Saßhit‡ (Cf. Schrîder, Preface p. xxx). The primary Svarita is denoted by the
sign "T" [that is just the curly hook at the beginning of a scripted T]. This sign occurs
twice in the Khila portion (I.11.4; 12.7). In K‡Òhaka Saßhit‡ a strong curve above the
line comes as a sign of the primary Svarita, while in Maitr‡yaı„ Saßhit‡ the curve lies
below the line (Cf. Schrîder, ibid.). If the next syllable is accented, the primary svarita is
denoted by '3' (Trikampa) even though the preceding syllable is short. This '3' which
stands after the Svarita syllable has either a horizontal stroke below the line or a
perpendicular stroke above the line. Scheftelowitz has retained this method of
accentuation in his edition; the same has been followed here too. p. 894
