As the Editors of this second volume in the series The Social
Unconscious in Persons, Groups, and Societies, we are pleased to
acknowledge the help and stimulation provided through dialogue
with our network of colleagues who are interested in developing our
field theory of the social unconscious and its applications to the study
of societies. This network is growing in size and international scope.
Our multiple foci of interests include the mundane elements of our
existence, as well as the traumatic pains associated with transgenera-
tional social trauma, and those aspects of our lives that can be modi-
fied through clinical work, as well as those that seem to be intractable
and recalcitrant. As always, we are grateful to our families and friends
for their tolerance of our continuing preoccupations. Céline Stakol has
carried the burden of the administrative and technical demands of our
labour, and we thank her for this.

ABOUT THE EDITORS AND CONTRIBUTORS
Hanni Biran, MA, is a clinical psychologist, psychoanalyst, and group
analyst in private practice in Israel. A supervisor and training psycho-
analyst for the Tel-Aviv Institute of Contemporary Psychoanalysis,
she teaches at many institutions in Israel and lectures internationally.
She is a member of Psycho-Active (an organisation of mental health
professionals for the promotion of human rights and against the occu-
pation). Born in Israel to a family of Iranian origin, she is married,
with two children and three grandchildren.
Alan Corbett, DClinSci, is a psychoanalytical therapist in private
practice in London. A trustee of the Institute of Psychotherapy and
Disability, and a member of the Training Committee of the Guild of
Psychotherapists, he is a former Director of Respond, and Clinical
Director of the CARI (Children at Risk in Ireland) Foundation and
ICAP (Immigrant Counselling and Psycho therapy). He is a training
therapist and supervisor, and a consultant to many psychotherapy
organisations in Britain and Ireland.
Tamsin Cottis, CertEd, MA, UKCP, is an integrative arts child
psychotherapist working in schools and in private practice in London,
