PREFACE
Agricultural instruction in the high-school has
extended rapidly within the last few that the

school where agriculture is taught. Very few refer-

ences have been made to state experiment station pluibc-ations,
since many of them are not available.
The teaching of agriculture is valuable only it
as
is made practical. It is suggested, therefore, that sdteun-ts
work in the laboratory and field much

possible in order to become directly familiar with soils,
crops, and applications of principles instead of relying
solely upon what the text says about them.
