More than 60 Lone Pine visitors and locals gathered at the Mt. Whitney Restaurant on Oct. 7 for
the eighth annual Lone Pine Film Festival Karaoke Contest. After three hours of performances,
the top three winners were, from left, Eve Bonham, Los Angeles, second place, $50 winner; Frank
Mesa, Rancho Cucamonga, third place, $25 winner; and Patty Von Weld, Angeles Oaks, first
place, $100 winner. In the three rounds of judging, Von Weld sealed the contest with her rendi-

It’s hard picking the right
Halloween costume
Halloween is coming.
Oh joy. Oh happiness. Oh delight. Be still my beating heart.
This year I will try to get into the spirit of Halloween, which can be a
bit of a chore after buying $50 worth of candy that will then be handed
out, for free, to dozens of annoying little people in
masks.
This year, in order to help celebrate this odd
holiday, I will dress up in a costume while hand-
ing out free candy. Sounds simple. I just have to
figure out which costume. Here are the candi-
dates. Oh, and feel free to steal a costume idea.
They are dandies.
A Crabby Old Cowboy. Wear a cowboy hat,
snap-button shirt and jeans, open the door and
immediately spit brown, “chaw” juice at the kids’
feet (don’t actually chew Red Man Chewing
Tobacco; chew Tootsie Rolls and spit the brown Jon Klusmire
“juice”). Call all the kids Cowpoke, Pard, Little OPINION
