Dugan fought tike plane as it sped toward the
island, holding its nose up as the tail dropped.
Bangl The tail slapped the water. The impact
sent a tremendous jolt through the plane. The
island approached at alarming speedL
Bangl Bang! The plane skipped on the waves.
And then, with a deafening Boom! the plane
smashed on the—oceans surface. It bounced
almost tumbled over the water. The whole
body of the plane quivered from the shock.
Screeches and shrieks and shouts filled the
cabin. And Dugan fought for every last instant
of controL
There were sounds of tearing metal and break-
ing wood, frightened animals and terrified
people.
And then it stopped. They were unharmed.
