Mark Logue, kleinzoon van Lionel Logue, raakte geinspireerd door de film en wilde het volledige verhaal van zijn grootvader vertellen, vanaf zijn kindertijd tot aan zijn dood. Lionel Logue werd in 1880 in Adelaide, Australie, geboren, raakte betrokken bij de welsprekendheidsbeweging en vestigde zich als leraar welsprekendheid. Hij huwde met Myrtle Gruenert.
