Preface

This is a guidebook for learning the message of the Holy Qur’an. It is presented in the way of a textbook and
personal guide to help the sincere seeker of knowledge understand better what this religious text means in English,
and also gives guidance on how a person can implement its principles in daily life.

The Holy Qur’an is a book that was revealed slowly, chapter-by-chapter, part-by-part, verse-by-verse over a
period of about 23 years to a man named Muhammad ibn Abdullah who lived in central Arabia, may he be granted
peace. Starting in the year 610 and ending in 632, this message is a continuation of the Judeo-Christian heritage of
monotheism and morality, all revealed by the same God.

It is considered by Muslims to be a corrective revelation from the Divine, to repair the true path of faith after
many centuries of false teachings and practices seeping into the original messages of Musa (Moses) and ‘Esa (Jesus)
resulting in diluted precepts and teachings and unnecessary restrictions imposed by clergymen acting on their own.

With the advent of the Qur’an, the path of true religion, as it was understood by Ibraheem, the scion of
monotheism in the Middle East, was restored once more. This is the place of the Qur’an among the great books of
the religious world: the Torah, the Gospel and the Qur’an – three revelations, one message – the last of them
pointing back to the uncorrupted messages of the originals that proceeded it.

This book you hold in your hands is the English meaning and interpretation of the Qur’an, a book that was
revealed by Divine providence in the Arabic language – a language that is used by the Qur’an in a highly poetic
nature and which cannot be translated into another tongue exactly and still contain the full variety and subtleness
of the original. We have presented the best approximation in English, along with commentary and the background
information on the passages as they were revealed.

Take a walk through the garden of faith and ponder over the meanings and wisdom contained herein.
Contemplate how to implement this message of this revelation in your life and allow your soul to be enriched and
your life enlivened with new purpose and dedication.

May the path to life be easy for you and may your time and growing body of experiences in this world, both
good and bad, be a source of strength and resolve. Life is short is a cliché we hear often. For some it may take
many years before they are confronted with the truth and deep significance of that statement. For others it comes
sooner and we find ourselves reaching out for any rope that can save us.

The Qur’an is a source of safety for the soul. Reading it in Arabic, or hearing it recited, is a healing.
Understanding its teachings is a signpost to follow on the crooked road of life. This book will provide some
directions on how to understand the message better. May your journey be a great one full of love, wisdom,
understanding, breakthroughs and freedom from despair.
