The General Security Service (Hebrew) or Israel Security Agency (English) is
Israel’s internal security service, charged with defending Israel against terrorism
and espionage. It is usually referred to as the Shin Bet or the Shabak, based on
the Hebrew acronym for its name. In this book, the agency is generally referred
to as the Shin Bet or as the Service, based on the terms used by the book’s
interviewed subjects.
