ABSTRACT

In
 todays
 business
 environment
 quality
 has
 become
 an
 important
 aspect
 of
 competitiveness.
 The

importance
 of
 quality
 and
 customer
 satisfaction
 has
 increased
 due
 to
 globalization.
 Working
 with

continuous
 improvements
 is
 one
 of
 the
 most
 effective
 ways
 for
 manufacturing
 organizations
 to

increase
 their
 productivity
 and
 improve
 the
 quality
 of
 their
 products
 and
 services.
 As
 a
 part
 of

working
 with
 continuous
 improvements,
 a
 management
 system
 is
 used
 to
 communicate
 a
 set
 of

standards
 and
 routines
 to
 employees.
 In
 order
 to
 make
 the
 communication
 efficient,
 the
 users
 of
 the

system
 should
 be
 able
 to
 easily
 find
 relevant
 documents
 and
 information
 concerning
 them
 and
 their

work.
 Therefore
 the
 usability
 of
 the
 management
 system
 has
 to
 be
 considered.

Many
 organizations
 that
 have
 implemented
 a
 management
 system
 choose
 to
 certify
 it
 according
 to
 a

certain
 or
 several
 standards,
 such
 as
 ISO
 9000,
 ISO
 14000
 etcetera.
 A
 certificate
 indicates
 that
 the

organization
 takes
 responsibility,
 and
 is
 concerned
 for
 their
 relationship
 with
 stakeholders.
 However,

a
 common
 perception
 of
 these
 certified
 management
 systems
 is
 that
 they
 are
 slow
 moving
 and

bureaucratic
  with
  a
  lot
  of
  additional
  documentation
  for
  the
  organization
  to
  handle.
  A
  well-­‐
functioning
  management
  system
  enables
  to
  efficiently
  combine
  requirements
  from
  different

standards
 with
 regulations
 from
 authorities
 as
 well
 as
 specific
 requirements
 from
 owners
 and

customers,
 and
 distribute
 it
 out
 in
 the
 organization
 in
 order
 to
 fulfill
 the
 requirements
 from
 different

stakeholders.

The
 aim
 of
 this
 thesis
 is
 to
 identify
 user
 needs
 and
 requirements
 on
 a
 management
 system,
 and

compare
 them
 to
 trends
 and
 future
 comings
 within
 the
 area,
 in
 order
 to
 recommend
 a
 suitable

design
  for
  a
  future
  management
  system.
  The
  thesis
  includes
  a
  case
  study
  conducted
  at

GKN
  Aerospace
  Sweden
  AB,
  which
  serves
  as
  a
  foundation
  for
  how
  organizations
  within
  the

aerospace
 industry
 can
 operate
 their
 management
 system,
 and
 also
 as
 a
 basis
 for
 improvement

suggestions.
 A
 literature
 review
 is
 included
 to
 provide
 an
 understanding
 of
 the
 topic,
 and
 empirical

findings
 for
 comprehension
 of
 how
 a
 management
 system
 can
 be
 used.

Interviews
 and
 focus
 group
 interviews
 were
 conducted
 in
 order
 to
 obtain
 the
 user
 view
 on
 a

management
 system.
 In
 order
 to
 get
 a
 broader
 perspective,
 interviews
 were
 also
 held
 with
 persons

with
 extensive
 experience
 from
 working
 with
 management
 systems.
 To
 identify
 and
 assimilate

trends
 and
 future
 comings
 within
 the
 area,
 sources
 of
 current
 nature,
 such
 as
 magazines,
 surveys

and
 reports
 published
 in
 the
 past
 year
 have
 been
 examined.

One
 of
 the
 major
 findings
 from
 the
 analysis
 is
 the
 management
 system’s
 integration
 with
 the

business
 operations.
 One
 might
 say
 that
 management
 systems,
 such
 as
 the
 ones
 focusing
 on
 quality

or
 environmental
 aspects,
 will
 be
 so
 well
 integrated
 in
 the
 future,
 that
 there
 only
 will
 be
 one
 generic

management
  system.
  Thereby
  integration
  of
  different
  management
  systems
  will
  no
  longer
  be

required.
 A
 future
 management
 system
 should
 also
 be
 so
 well
 integrated
 in
 the
 business
 operations

and
 user
 interfaces
 that
 employees
 will
 perform
 their
 daily
 activities,
 without
 noticing
 the
 function

of
 the
 management
 system.
 From
 the
 results
 of
 this
 study,
 a
 number
 of
 recommendations
 on
 how
 to

begin
 this
 journey
 towards
 an
 integrated
 management
 system
 have
 been
 developed.

 dagens
 företagsklimat,
 med
 en
 allt
 mer
 globaliserad
 marknad,
 har
 kvalitet
 blivit
 ett
 viktigt
 led
 i
 att

vara
 konkurrenskraftig.
 Ett
 av
 de
 mest
 effektiva
 sätten
 för
 ett
 företag
 att
 förbättra
 kvaliteten
 på
 sina

produkter
 och
 tjänster
 är
 genom
 att
 arbeta
 med
 ständiga
 förbättringar.
 Ett
 verksamhetslednings-­‐
system
 kan
 ingå
 som
 en
 del
 i
 detta,
 då
 det
 används
 för
 att
 kommunicera
 en
 uppsättning
 standarder

och
 rutiner
 till
 de
 anställda.
 För
 att
 göra
 denna
 kommunikation
 effektiv,
 bör
 användarna
 av
 systemet

snabbt
 och
 enkelt
 kunna
 hitta
 den
 information
 som
 berör
 dem
 och
 deras
 arbetsuppgifter.
 Därför
 är

det
 viktigt
 att
 tänka
 på
 användarvänligheten
 hos
 ett
 verksamhetsledningssystem.

Många
 organisationer
 som
 har
 implementerat
 ett
 verksamhetsledningssystem
 väljer
 att
 certifiera
 sig

enligt
 en
 eller
 flera
 standarder,
 så
 som
 ISO
 9000,
 ISO
 14000
 etcetera.
 En
 certifiering
 indikerar
 på
 att

organisationen
 tar
 sitt
 ansvar
 och
 värnar
 om
 sin
 relation
 med
 intressenter.
 Det
 är
 emellertid
 en

vanlig
 uppfattning
 att
 certifierade
 verksamhetsledningssystem
 är
 trögrörliga
 och
 byråkratiska,
 samt

att
  de
  kräver
  extra
  resurser
  med
  avseende
  på
  dokumenthantering.
  Ett
  väl
  fungerande

verksamhetsledningssystem
 gör
 det
 möjligt
 att
 effektivt
 kombinera
 krav
 från
 olika
 standarder
 med

föreskrifter
 från
 myndigheter
 och
 specifika
 krav
 från
 ägare
 och
 kunder
 för
 att
 effektivt
 förmedla

dessa
 ut
 i
 organisationen
 för
 att
 således
 uppfylla
 kraven
 från
 olika
 intressenter.

Syftet
 med
 detta
 examensarbete
 är
 att
 undersöka
 och
 identifiera
 vad
 användarna
 har
 för
 behov
 och

krav
 på
 ett
 verksamhetsledningssystem.
 Vidare
 jämförs
 dessa
 med
 trender
 som
 finns
 inom
 området

för
 att
 i
 slutändan
 kunna
 ta
 fram
 rekommendationer
 på
 ett
 framtida
 verksamhetsledningssystem

som
  överensstämmer
  med
  användarnas
  behov.
  En
  fallstudie
  har
  genomförts
  vid

GKN
 Aerospace
 Sweden
 AB,
 vilken
 utgör
 en
 bas
 för
 hur
 organisationer
 i
 flygindustrin
 kan
 hantera
 sitt

verksamhetsledningssystem,
  samt
  en
  grund
  för
  förbättringsförslag.
  En
  litteraturstudie
  har

genomförts,
 för
 att
 få
 en
 förståelse
 för
 ämnet,
 medan
 den
 empiriska
 delen
 ger
 insikt
 i
 hur
 ett

verksamhetsledningssystem
 kan
 användas
 i
 praktiken.

Intervjuer
 och
 fokusgrupper
 har
 genomförts
 för
 att
 erhålla
 användarnas
 syn
 på
 ett
 verksamhets-­‐
ledningssystem.
 För
 att
 identifiera
 och
 kartlägga
 framtida
 trender
 inom
 området
 har
 källor
 av
 aktuell

natur
 undersökts,
 så
 som
 tidskrifter,
 undersökningar
 och
 rapporter
 som
 har
 publicerats
 det
 senaste

året.
  Dessutom
  har
  personer
  med
  gedigen
  erfarenhet
  av
  att
  ha
  arbetat
  med
  verksamhets-­‐
ledningssystem
 intervjuats
 för
 att
 få
 ett
 bredare
 perspektiv
 på
 området.

Ett
 av
 de
 viktigaste
 resultaten
 från
 analysen
 är
 integrationen
 mellan
 verksamhetsledningssystemet

och
 den
 operativa
 verksamheten.
 Man
 kan
 säga
 att
 olika
 typer
 av
 ledningssystem,
 exempelvis

sådana
 med
 fokus
 på
 kvalitet
 eller
 miljö,
 kommer
 att
 vara
 så
 väl
 integrerade
 i
 framtiden
 att
 det

endast
 kommer
 att
 behövas
 ett
 enda
 övergripande
 verksamhetsledningssystem.
 Därmed
 kommer

integrering
  av
  olika
  typer
  av
  ledningssystem
  inte
  att
  behövas.
  Ett
  framtida
  verksamhets-­‐
ledningssystem
  bör
  även
  vara
  så
  väl
  integrerat
  i
  den
  operativa
  verksamheten
  och
  användar-­‐
gränssnitt
 att
 de
 anställda
 kommer
 att
 kunna
 genomföra
 sina
 dagliga
 arbetsuppgifter
 utan
 att
 lägga

märke
 till
 verksamhetsledningssystemets
 funktion.
 Från
 resultatet
 av
 denna
 studie
 har
 ett
 antal

rekommendationer
 tagits
 fram
 gällande
 hur
 resan
 mot
 ett
 integrerat
 verksamhetsledningssystem

påbörjas.
