In 1881, the National Transit Company, which became one of the most powerful
corporations in the country, was organized by the Standard Oil Company to
coordinate and assure the flow of its oil through its own pipe transmission line
system. With this company, John D. Rockefeller and H. H. Rogers controlled the
Dow and prices of oil to all major distribution centers.
Henry Huddleston Rogers (1840-1909) was a financier, known as the mastermind
of Standard Oil interests. He originated the concept of pipeline transportation.
Rogers was not only one of the dominant figures in the petroleum industry, but
was also involved in a number of copper, gas, railroad, and banking operations.
Cancellation holes slightly touch Rogers’ signature in two places.

Organized in 1917 and promoted by S. C. Pandolfo, Pan Motor was considered as
the most unique stock fraud in the history of high finance. Pandolfo built a large
plant and claiming extravagant output he successfully bilked some 70,000
unsuspecting investors out of more than $9,500,00. When the plant was closed in m msMm
1922, only approximately 737 cars had actually been built and produced by the
company. Samuel C. Pandolfo was convicted for fraud by the Federal Courts at
Chicago in 1919.

Stanley Rule & Level was incorporated in 1850 followed by Stanley Works
two years later. In 1920, these two companies joined forces together to
become The Stanley Works, which is a leader in quality hardware tools
and other industrial products. Stanley Works is credited with many firsts
in the entire hardware and metal industry; the first to develop cold steel
rolling and the first to manufacture a metal plane (Stanley’s famous Bailey
Plane) just to name two.
Frederick T. Stanley was the founder of Stanley Works and the first mayor
of New Britain when it became a city in 1871.
William H. Hart was the driving force behind the company’s rapid early
growth.

This company controlled over 1,600 miles of track in 1873. It later was absorbed by ^
the Chicago, Milwaukee & St. Paul Railroad.
Russel Sage was intimately involved with the stock market manipulations of Jay
Gould. He began his career as a grocery clerk and amassed a fortune. His second
wife, Margaret Olivia Slocum established the Russell Sage Foundation and
supported the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Cornell, Princeton and the Russell
Sage Institute of Technology.
Rubber stamp cancellation has partially obscured signature, but legible. Similar
piece realized $575 in last year’s Strasburg Sale.
