This yearwe dedicate the yearbook to an exceptional Professor and Business Chair, the late Arthur J. LaPorteJr.
Professor LaPorte will sorely be missed by the students and faculty who had the honorofknowing and working with
a person ofhis caliber.
LaPorte was a founding member ofthe business department at Salem State and had served as chairperson. He also
served in the Continuing Education Department as well as exploring the possibility ofthe college offering an interna-
tional Program in Business.
Professor LaPorte was a disabled veteran who saw service in the Air Force during the Korean War and was a life-
time member of the Disabled Veterans Assoc. He was also on the board of directors of the Salem Hospital and had
served as president ofthe Salem YMCA. He was an avid sailor and traveler.
His students felt he was a wonderful gentleman as well as mentor. He took the time to listen and that is rare. He also
cared, that is rarer.
Faculty felt he was irreplaceable to the school due to his extreme versatility and commitment to the students.
Prof. Arthur J. LaPorte Jr. will fondly be remembered and will hold a special place in our hearts as we embark on
the next chapters ofour lives.
