by the top consultants in their fields today. Many thanks to executives

important areas of compensation, executive compensation, and
performance management. Dr. Lyle Spencer, CEO of McBer and
Company, and Dr. David C. McClelland, founder and chairman of the
board of McBer and Company and professor emeritus from Harvard,

The recruitment and retention elements of the human resources (HR)
function are the fastest changing, most visible, and most highly
regulated functions in business today. New issues in these areas arise
every year, and many form trends that HR managers need to watch.
The AMA Handbook for Employee Recruitment and Retention focuses
on these key HR issues and trends. The book also provides practical,
easy-to-use policies and procedures for finding and keeping the best,
most productive work force available in these times.
A major problem for organizations now and in the coming years is the
mismatch between the types and numbers of people who are available
to work and the types of available jobs. The United States has
changed drastically from an industrial society to an information and
service society. This change has had a significant impact on the
creation of jobsand on the people who must be recruited and retained
to fill those jobs.
Moreover, a powerful tide is sweeping across all organizations todaya
tide that is bringing tremendous changes in organizational structure, in
types of employees, in the way we work, in productivity, in human
rights, and in employee motivations and values. This same tide is
gradually eating away at the old traditional ways organizations do
thingshow we handle people and our policies and procedures.
