Geodetic multi-sensor systems and networks using terrestrial and space-borneobservationtechniqueswerethematicanchorpoints. TheQuGOMSworkshophas beenorganizedjointly bythe study groupsIC-SG2 and IC- SG3oftheIntercommissionCommitteeonTheory(ICCT)oftheInternationalAssociationof Geodesy(IAG).BesidesitsstrongrelationstoallIAGCommissionstheworkshopwasalsoin thescopeofFIGCommissions5and6.Thus,itattractedscientistsundertheumbrellasofboth IAGandFIG.TheworkshoptookplaceintheroomsoftheInternationalGraduateSchoolof ScienceandEngineering(IGSSE)oftheTechnischeUniversitätMünchen,Garching/Munich from13thto15thApril2011. Theworkshopwasorganizedinfiveregularsessions.Toalargeextent,thesessions’topics referredtothesubjectsoftheIC-SG2andIC-SG3oftheICCT: (cid:129) Uncertaintymodellingofgeodeticdata (cid:129) Theoreticalstudiesoncombinationstrategiesandparameterestimation (cid:129) Recursivestate-spacefiltering (cid:129) Sensornetworksandmulti-sensorsystemsinengineeringgeodesy (cid:129) Multi-missionapproacheswithviewtophysicalprocessesintheEarthsystem The contributed papers showed quite well the related questions and hence the close connection of methodologyin the differentfields of application such as global geodesy and engineering geodesy. Without doubt, it is worthwhile to continue this kind of workshop to fosterscientificexchangealsobetweenscientificorganizations. Therewere severalcolleagueswho contributedto the successof the workshopandof the proceedings.Alleditorsofthisvolumeactedalsoasconvenors.HamzaAlkhatibcoordinated thereviewsofthesubmittedpapersandcommunicatedwiththesymposiumeditorsandwith Springer.
