EU Rule Forces 'Too High' Park Swings to Close LONDON (Reuters) - A British parish council has been forced to close its playground swings, used by hundreds of children a year, because a European Union (news - web sites) rule says they are 2 feet too high. The three swings exceed the maximum height order set by Brussels bureaucrats which says swings should be no more than 9 feet, 11 inches high. The swings, at a park in Wiltshire, southwest England, were put up 25 years ago. "The ruling has come as a bombshell," Parish Council Chairman Toby Sturgis told Reuters, noting there had been no accidents on the swings for 25 years.
