PREFACE

Mehmet Akif Ersoy University ELT Seniors (2017) have prepared the activities on this book in
partial fulfillment of the requirements for the Course entitled ‘Materials Adaptation and
Evaluation”, which aims to enable students to acquire skills necessary for evaluating language-
teaching materials in current textbooks, to adapt and/or develop materials for language teaching
and language testing.

Working in groups of 6 to 7, seniors have designed these supplementary activities based on the
units of the coursebook UPTURN in English 8. In order to ensure consistency both in design and
content, the students have been provided with a template, which, in most cases, limited their
creativity. However, considering the work these students have done among many other
assignments, presentations and responsibilities, I believe that they deserve special recognition and
the right to feel proud of themselves.

I wish them every success and happiness in their future life and career.
