ABOUT THE AUTHORS
KURT GORDAN, PSW, PhD, is an assistant Professor of Psychology
and a Psychotherapist in private practice. He was Director of
the Erica Foundation in Stockholm, 1970-1988. He trains senior
psychologists, psychiatrists, and social workers in psychotherapy
and supervision. He is a Consultant and Supervisor to public
institutions for health care, theatre, etc. He is the author of books
about antisocial adolescents, psychotherapy supervision, and
professional "encounters".
LE6N GRINBERG, MD , is a Training and Supervising Psychoanalyst
for the Madrid Psychoanalytic Association and also a Member of
the Buenos Aires Psychoanalytic Association. He is a former Vice-
President of the International Psychoanalytic Association and
President of the Argentine Psychoanalytic Association. He has
been a Professor at several institutions. He has lectured in numer
ous countries and is the author of many books which have been
translated widely.
ROBERT LANGS, MD, is Visiting Professor of Psychiatry at the Mt.
Sinai School of Medicine in New York City and Visiting Clinical

Researcher at the Nathan S. Kline Institute for Psychiatric Research
in Orangeburg, New York, and Honoured Visiting Professor at
Regent's College School of Psychotherapy and Counselling, Lon
don. He is a Member of the American Psychoanalytic Association.
He lectures and teaches in many countries and is the author of
many books and papers in the fields of psychotherapy and psycho
analysis.
DOROTHY LLOYD-OWEN is a Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist and an
Associate Member of the British Association of Psychotherapy,
where she is on the Training Committee. She trained and worked
previously as a Senior Probation Officer. She works at the Portman
Clinic in London and in private practice.
BRIAN MARTINDALE, MRCP, MRCPSYCH, is a Consultant Psychia
trist in Psychotherapy at Parkside Clinic and St Charles Hospital,
London. He trained at the Maudsley and Cassel Hospitals and is an
Associate Member of the British Psychoanalytic Society. He was
the founding member and Past Chairman of the European Federa
tion of Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy and is on the executive board
of the International Society for the Psychological Treatments of
Schizophrenia and other psychoses. He has published in a num
ber of areas including psychoanalytic psychotherapy with the
elderly.
MONTSERRAT MARHNEZ DEL Pozo, PhD, is a Psychologist and a Child,
Adult, and Group Training Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist. She is
President of both the Spanish Association of Psychoanalytic Psy
chotherapy and the Catalan Association of Psychotherapists and is
a Spanish group section delegate to the EFPP. She is a staff member
of the Clinical Psychology Service of the Fundacion Puigvert, Hos
pital de la Santa Cruz and San Pablo, Universidad Autonoma de
Barcelona, and a Professor and Supervisor at various institutions.
She has published, with colleagues, a number of books on work
with children, adults, and groups.
PETER-CHRISTIAN MIEST, LIC. PHIL, is a psychoanalyst and member
of the Swiss Psychotherapy Association (SPV) as well as a super
visor in private practice in Basle, Switzerland.

VICTOR SEDLAK, PhD, researched into learning disabilities before
training as a Clinical Psychologist in Leeds and as a Psychoanalytic
Psychotherapist at the Tavistock Clinic. He is now a Member of the
British Psychoanalytical Society and in recent years has moved
back to the north of England, where he is interested in the develop
ment of psychoanalytic psychotherapy and psychoanalysis in that
region. He has also been active over many years in Poland, promot
ing similar developments. He has published on topics such as
assessment, dreams, countertransference, and work with psychotic
patients.
ULRICH STREECK, MD, MA, is a Psychiatrist, Psychoanalyst, and
Sociologist. He is Professor and Medical Director of the Tiefen
brunn Clinic and Hospital for Psychotherapy, Psychiatry, and
Psychosomatic Medicine of Lower Saxony in Germany. He is Past
President of the German psychoanalytic umbrella organization
(the DGPT). He has conducted qualitative psychotherapy research
on psychotherapeutic dialogues, group psychotherapy, and in
patient psychotherapy and is the editor of several books on clinical
psychoanalysis and qualitative research.
IMRE SZECSODY, MD, PhD, is a Psychoanalyst and is President of
the Swedish Psychoanalytic Society. He is Associate Professor at
the Karolinska Institute, Stockholm. He was the director of the
West Stockholm County Psychotherapy Training Unit. He has
conducted extensive research into supervision and the learning
process and has long experience of conducting the formal training
of supervisors. He has published extensively.
ROBERT S. WALLERSTEIN, MD, is Emeritus Professor and former
Chairman of the Department of Psychiatry, University of Cali
fornia San Francisco School of Medicine. He is a Training and
Supervising Analyst at the San Francisco Psychoanalytic Institute
and was President of the American Psychoanalytic Association
(1971-1972) and President of the International Psychoanalytical
Association (1985-1989).
