Il mio interesse per Teofilo e per la sua Parafrasi e iniziato alcuni anni fa del tutto casualmente a seguito delle lettura di una splendida tesi in occasione della mia partecipazione agli esami finali del Dottorato di Pavia Confesso che gia quel primo embrionale contatto con le tante problematiche ancora aperte sulla personalita dell antecessor costantinopoliano e soprattutto sul metodo di formazione e sulla natura della sua opera mi ha subito affascinato sollecitando la mia curiosita e la voglia di approfondire una conoscenza che fino a quel momento era rimasta in vero ad un livello meramente superficiale E nata cosi come spesso avviene nel nostro mestiere un attrazione che e andata sempre piu intensificandosi man mano che mi addentravo nella considerazione della sterminata letteratura esistente sul tema ma che e divenuta fatale soprattutto a seguito della lettura diretta ripetuta piu e piu volte proprio della Parafrasi lettura che mi ha svelato l inaspettato spessore culturale di un opera per lungo tempo troppo spesso ingenerosamente bistrattata in dottrina e comunemente considerata uno zibaldone zeppo di errori ed inesattezze che peraltro non sarebbe neanche stato scritto personalmente da Teofilo ma da un suo giovane studente che avrebbe raccolto e poi pubblicato gli appunti delle lezioni tenute dal professore in aula
