The Blessings of Obedience

God wants to bless us and move us on from level to level if we obey him. And at
each level there is someone to point us to the next. The Bible tells us of four such
messengers - Haggai, Elijah, A Little Boy, & Joseph who have one message to
proclaim – Obey the Lord
LEVEL ONE: - Speaks of God’s Supply for you.

Hag1:6 Prophet Haggai cries out cried ‘Bag of Holes.’ Their supply was in a bag
of holes not sufficient even for one.’

During Prophet Haggai’s day Israel was brought back from captivity to the
Babylonians. They started building God’s House but stopped short to build their
own. Disaster struck, money was not sufficient. Prophet Haggai cried out: ‘You
earn wages only to put them into a bag of holes.’–Why? - Because they
disobeyed God.

What about us? Are we doing the same? - Having started building God’s house
we have stopped. We are busy building our own! - There is no harm earning our
daily bread looking after our homes. But are our priorities right? God have mercy!
Each of us will have to answer God.

Mt6: 33. “Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and his righteousness…”
Jn2: 17. “…zeal for your house has consumed me...”

Is our supply in a bag of holes? - While we earn we must learn to put God first,
next his house, then ours! If we do not, blessings will fly away!

Haggai’s Message?-Obey God!

LEVEL TWO: Speaks of God’s Supply for your family.

1Kings17 - Prophet Elijah cries out: ‘Barrelful.’ - Your supply is in a Barrel, just
sufficient for your family.

Israel had sinned and was in idolatry which resulted in a great famine. During this
time, Elijah heard God, obeyed him and went to brook Cherith as he was told.
There he was fed by ravens and drank from the brook. After sometime the brook
dried and the ravens stopped bringing food. It was time to move on.

God spoke to Elijah again, directing him to go to Zarepath. He obeyed God
again, went to Zarepath, and was fed by a widow during the famine. He worked a

miracle. Her barrel of flour never ran short; her bottle of oil to make cakes
remained full till God sent rain.

Because Elijah obeyed God ordered ravens to feed him, the brook of Cherith to
quench his thirst and the widow of Zarepath to feed him.

bottle of oil to make cakes remained full till God sent rain.

In the same way God will provide you a barrelful of blessings sufficient for you
and your family if you obey him! He is Jehovah Jireh your provider!

Elijah’s Message?-Obey God.

LEVEL THREE: Speaks of God’s supply for the community.

John6 - A little boy cries out - ‘Basketful’ – The supply is more than enough for
the community. God is El Shaddai who is more than enough!

Jesus multiplied the five loaves and the two fishes that the little boy gave him
which fed 5000 men beside women and children. Twelve basketful of left-over
was collected, just because the boy obeyed and gave what he had! He received
more than what he gave.

You must do the same. If you give what you have you can expect him to meet
your need by multiplying it back to you. That is abundance! But remember at the
same time: God loves a cheerful giver! Give cheerfully!

If there are some who don’t receive even though they give - there must be a
problem at their end, not at God’s end. They must try to find out why. God is
faithful!

The Little boy’s message? – Obey God!

LEVEL FOUR: Speaks of God’s supply for the nation.

Gen39-41: Joseph cries out ‘Barn-full.’ The supply is plentiful for the whole
nation.

God gave Joseph wisdom to interpret Pharaoh’s dream of the years of plenty and
the years of famine – how to store grain in advance in barns, storehouses,
granaries so that it could be used during famine. So there was more than
sufficient for Egypt, Israel and the surrounding places.

Prov3: 10. “…your barns, storehouses will be full of grain and your vessels
overflowing with new wine.” - As you obey God your barns, storehouses will be
full to an overflowing!

Joseph’s message – Obey God!

God hates rebellion, he likens it to witchcraft:
"Rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft & stubbornness as iniquity and idolatry.”
1Sam15: 23

Finally: Who do you obey?

God and his word; Parents; Employers; Laws of the Land; Government;
Leaders…Go to the Bible especially the Epistles and do what it tells you to do.
When you do that you will be blessed and highly favored!
“If you are willing and obedient you shall eat the good of the land be blessed &
satisfied.” “If you refuse and rebel [disobedient] you shall be devoured.” Isa1: 19-
20.
“All these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, because you obey
the voice of the LORD your God…if you do not obey the voice of the LORD your
God…all these curses shall come upon you.” Deut28

SUPERMAN

Acts1:8. “But you shall receive power [ability, efficiency, might] when the Holy
Spirit has come upon you and you shall be my witnesses…”

If you are born-again you are a superman with
extraordinary powers abilities gifts might strength
rights and privileges given to you by God. You may
not fly in the air with a red cape and a large ‘S’ on
your chest but you do have supernatural abilities and
super powers not displayed among ordinary people
on earth. As a Christian you are a superman with the
ability given to you by God Himself to change any
hopeless situation around. One thing is necessary
that you become aware of it and act like it is so,
performing the task and mission God has assigned
you. What does scripture say about this?

Lk10:19 “I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to
overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you.” That means that
you have been given authority over all the power of the enemy. And no matter
how poisonous, harmful or evil a thing is, it has no power to hurt you.

Mk16:18 “…if you drink any deadly thing it shall not hurt you and when you lay
hands on the sick, they recover!” Why? Because you are extra-ordinary, not of
this world – the life of Christ in you makes you supernatural.

All you need to do recognize and become aware of the divine ability, efficiency,
might that the Holy Spirit has brought in your life – that you are a Superman!

A story is told of an Archbishop who was in an airplane flying with several others.
The Pilot announced they had lost one engine and the other was having trouble
and might fail soon. The passengers panicked and imagined the crash. But the
Archbishop got up, spoke in tongues, used his authority in the Name of Jesus
and said to the plane, “Move” – The engine and the plane became steady until it
landed perfectly and safely. The cockpit crew couldn’t explain how everything
turned normal; they thanked the Archbishop for saving their lives.

You have been given authority in the Name of Jesus. You have been given the
power of attorney to use His Name against sickness; you can use it to improve
your job, finances, marriage, family and all that concerns you.

You are a Superman with the Holy Ghost power residing within and with authority
given to you in the Name of Jesus! All you need to do is use your authority and
release the Hoy Ghost power in you!

You could make a simple prayer like this - affirming your God-given abilities.
“Heavenly Father, thank you for the life of Christ dwelling in me that makes me
superhuman! I recognize your divine ability, efficiency and might at work in me
today, and by virtue of this divine life I declare I’m superior to Satan; I call those
things that are not as though they were and nothing shall be impossible to me in
the Name of Jesus and for the glory of God!”

TENSE?
Life is often full of stress - marriage, children, work, studies, you name it! It is
often so hard to manage. But there is good news! God’s Word in the Holy Bible
offers practical and spiritual advice:
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with
thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which
transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ
Jesus. Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right,
whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable if anything is
excellent or praiseworthy think about such things…And the God of peace will be
with you. (Phil 4:6-9) - Pray – Think - Live right!
PRAY RIGHT
“But in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving present your
requests to God.” It is not enough to petition God, you need to pray as well. “Our
Father in heaven, hallowed be your name.” Prayer begins by acknowledging
God’s greatness and goodness in praise, before praying for our daily bread.
Judah faced an overwhelming problem. Three nations planned to destroy the
Jews. When King Jehoshaphat bowed down in prayer and the Levites praised
God [2 Chr20:18-19), He spoke to them saying, “The Battle is not yours but the
Lords,” which meant that God would take care of them. So they put people to
praise the Lord on the battle lines. In the atmosphere of praise God confused the
three nations who actually ended up killeing each other. The secret to their
victory was the atmosphere of praise.
Although God is always great, big, all powerful and wonderful, there are times
our eyes don’t see his greatness. You magnify God when you praise him. It’s like
a magnifying glass enables one to read print in a larger size. So you begin to see
Him like He really is! Praising God removes stress. It’s time to praise the Lord.
There is nothing wrong with “presenting your request to God,” petitioning Him
specifically for what you need- whether domestic, work, finance or whatever. In
fact the Bible says you don’t have because you didn’t ask. Wouldn’t God do
amazing things if you just asked Him? You would be at peace with an assurance
that He grants your requests. Instead of complaining about how tense you are,
ask God for what you need. Do you think you would be tense if God came in and
solved your problem? - Of course not. If you are stressed over a lack of finance,
and you think you would feel better if you had more? Then go ahead ask God!

The first passage adds “with thanksgiving,” which means your prayer must be
surrounded with gratitude. After healing ten lepers only one came back to thank
Jesus. He emphatically asked, “Where are the other nine?” The majority of those
who are blessed and helped by the Lord fail to see how good He has been to
them. People’s thinking often becomes futile when they are ungrateful.
[Rom1:21]. It seems that the devil works better on the ungrateful. Mentally
affected patients would do well if they regularly practiced gratitude - for the mind
is the battleground where Satan wages warfare. To put him to flight wouldn’t it be
reasonable to protect our minds from stress by being joyful at all times and taking
count of our blessings? Laughter is good medicine. We need to be grateful to
God for all He has done for us.
THINK RIGHT
Next, in order to overcome being tense we need to “think on these things,” that
are praiseworth!” Stress is a basic mental phenomenon.
The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary,
they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and
every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take
captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.
(2 Cor10:4-5).
In this scripture we are told to demolish every pretension - make-belief that is
unreal. It’s like watching imaginary characters in a movie-thriller on screen.
Though unreal your emotions are affected. Our minds are like the screen. We
play things in our minds that terrify us. We must realize that what is in the mind is
only a “pretense.” It is unreal. Unfortunately, people often think that the
pretension is true. They often do not differentiate between the unreality of
pretension in their minds and the truth of God’s Word.
The devil is adept working this way. He gets us to think about things that stress
us out. On the contrary our loving Heavenly Father God promises to be with us
all the time, work out everything for our good, give us a great future and disallow
testing beyond our endurance. So why get stressed out? Since God is on our
side, we need to quit dwelling on the enemy’s lies, and pretense.
LIVE RIGHT
The scripture goes on to say: ‘Whatever you have learned or received or heard
from me, or seen in me — put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with
you.’
Whenever the Bible says that God was with someone it referred to something
God was doing for that person. The phrase ‘God be with you,’ implies that God
will cause you to be successful. When God is working for you, you cannot fail.
How would you like Him to work on your behalf?

Stress is a fearful emotion brought on by the feeling that the worse is yet to
come. However, if God is with you, the worse cannot happen. And how will you
get Him to be with you? – By practicing the Word of God. This is where right
living comes in. Right living is very important when it comes to overcoming
stress.
Much of our stress is caused by doing wrong. It’s like a man having a secret
affair, undergoing stress in keeping it secret. The phone ringing, his heart
skipping, his mistress calling adds to the stress He spends much time worrying
about getting caught.
A law-breaker, worries that he will go to prison or pay a fine if he gets caught,.
Why then break the law when all it does is to stress him out?
Disobeying God brings needless stress. Even doing something that does not
bring punishment in this life, doing something wrong still brings a guilty
conscience. Is that guilty conscience worth the stress?
God has a good solution for those who are tense, stressed out. It is to meditate
and practice Philippines 4:6-9. Ask God’s help in doing it.
