It is a great pleasure to welcome all attendees from ICCVA 2017, a traditional event which we had the
unique opportunity to organize in Brazil.
Both SBA and SCA are proud to welcome more than 500 Brazilian and foreign guests to discuss and
share knowledge and experiences.
We will have 26 conferences, 02 Satellite Symposiums, 08 PBLD Courses and 08 workshops
throughout the program.
We would like to thank those who have committed themselves to make this event come true and we
hope you all will appreciate it.

Dear Collegues,
ICCVA is a great event about anesthesiology world wide, in which relevant themes from areas related
to anesthesia for cardiovascular surgery will be discussed by distinguished specialists from all over
the world.
It is the first time this meeting will be held in Brazil, what makes SBA rightfully proud, but aware of the
responsibility and commitment to organize a world-class event. To this end, we carried out a Scientific
Program of excellence with themes of great importance for professional improvement of
anesthesiologists.
You are all welcome to Brazil and Rio de Janeiro, the marvelous city that not only has countless
attractions and held the 2016 Olympic Games but also are the world capital from cardiovascular

On behalf of the International Committee and the Board of the Society of Cardiovascular
Anesthesiologists (SCA), I would like to express our most sincere gratitude and congratulations to the
Brazilian Society of Anesthesiology (SBA) as the host of the 16th International Congress of
Cardiothoracic and Vascular Anesthesia (ICCVA), which is being held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on Oct
4-6, 2017.
This is my honor and privilege to co-chair and to coordinate the participation of the International
Speakers together with Dr. Carlos Galhardo in the SBA-ICCVA International Advisory Board, to
develop this 16th ICCVA scientific program, with the theme of "State of the Art in Cardiothoracic and
Vascular Anesthesia: Challenges and Opportunities for the Future". I would also like to acknowledge
the guidance and support by Dr. Rogean Rodrigues Nunes (President of Scientific Committee of 16th
ICCVA) and Dr. Sylvio Lemos (President of Organizing Committee of 16th ICCVA) on the final
program and the venue of this conference in Rio de Janeiro.
This 16th ICCVA conference is an important gathering of top International Cardiac Anesthesiologists,
Cardiologists and Cardiac Surgeons to promote the exchange of clinical knowledge, management
and research advancement in our cardiothoracic and vascular patients. We have in Rio de Janeiro the
world distinguished cardiothoracic anesthesiologists from the Society of Cardiovascular
Anesthesiologists (SCA), the European Association of Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology (EACTA), and
the Asian Society of Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia (ASCA); renowned Cardiologist such as Professor
PJ Devereaux (McMaster University) and eminent Cardiac Surgeon such as Professor Tirone David
(University of Toronto). This conference provides us the network opportunity to refresh old friendships
and to introduce to new ones. We have here more than 65 prominent International faculty from over
17 countries outside of South America (Australia, Canada, China, Czech, Denmark, Germany, India,
Italy, Korea, Netherlands, Philippines, South Africa, Singapore, Japan, Switzerland, UK, USA)
presenting in this meeting.
I would like you to take full advantage of this exciting international congress to broaden your clinical
practice and to absorb in the culture in Brazil by the fabulous hospitality from our host at the Brazilian
Society of Anesthesiology (SBA).
