Introduction

Contacting spirit guides is as old as civilization itself. Shamans dating
back to at least 50,000 B.C. had rituals of placing themselves in communi-
cation with nonphysical entities. The Mystery Schools of ancient Egypt,
Greece, Persia, Rome, and India also dealt with contacting spirits.
This approach appeared to reach a zenith in the 19th century with the
Spiritualism Movement. Today a reincarnation of interest has been mani-
fested through the resurgence of attention brought to angels, the Higher
Self and channeling in general.
Every major religion acknowledges the reality of discarnate entities
or spirits. These may be called saints, angels, the Holy Spirit, and so on.
One of the purposes of this book is to demystify this process. Hollywood
films, television, and novels have incorrectly presented the view that some
magical (if not evil) process is necessary to contact one of these spirits.
The media’s conception of spirit contact has led to the false assump-
tion that the individual who establishes this contact must be in great dan-
ger. In reality, this communication is natural, relatively simple, and is a
wonderful growth experience. Spirit communication removes the fear of
death and bereavement, and results in a form of spiritual empowerment.
We now can have evidence of our immortality, in addition to receiving
enlightenment from beings far more spiritually evolved than we are.
