Preface
Welcome to the proceedings of the Second International Multi-Conference on
Artificial Intelligence Technology (M-CAIT 2013). The theme of the conference
was “The Next Wave of Computational Intelligence,” which comprises a vast
areaofcomputationalintelligence.M-CAIT2013wasorganizedbytheCenterfor
Artificial Intelligence Technology (CAIT), a center of excellence at the Faculty
of Information Science and Technology, Universiti KebangsaanMalaysia.
M-CAIT 2013 was a conference hosting four artificial intelligence special
tracksin a single event: The Special Trackon Intelligence Computation onPat-
tern Analysis and Robotics (ICPAIR 2013), The Special Track on Data Min-
ing and Optimization (DMO 2013), The Special Track on Semantic Technology
and Information Retrieval (STAIR 2013), and The Special Track on Industrial
Computing and Applied Informatics (ICOMP 2013). These special tracks were
organized by the four research groups at the Center For Artificial Intelligence
Technology(CAIT),namely,thePatternRecognition,theDataMiningandOp-
timizationResearchGroup(DMO), the KnowledgeTechnologyResearchGroup
(KT), and the Industrial Computing Research Group (IComp). M-CAIT 2013
wasa platformto bring togetherresearchers,developers,andpractitionersfrom
academia and industry working in all interdisciplinary areas of artificial intelli-
gence to sharetheir experience and exchangeand cross-fertilizetheir ideas. The
conference serves as a forum for the dissemination of state-of-the-art research,
development, implementation, and applications within the four focus areas in
CAIT: pattern recognition, data mining and optimization, knowledge technol-
ogy, and industrial computing.
M-CAIT 2013 was delighted to host three fascinating keynote speakers:
Dr. Benny Tjahjono, a senior lecturer in Manufacturing Systems Engineering,
Cranfield University; Prof. Dr. Steffen Staab from the Institute for Computer
Science, University of Koblenz, Germany; and Dr. Kenji Suzuki, Assistant Pro-
fessor ofRadiology, Medical Physics andComprehensive Cancer, the University
of Chicago.
We received 110 papers from 13 countries worldwide. The submitted papers
went through a rigorousreviewing process and the 25 best papers were selected
for inclusion in this CCIS vol. 378 under the common theme of “applications of
soft computing and intelligent systems.” We would like to express our greatest
gratitude to the authorsand reviewersofall paper submissions, as well as to all
attendees, for their input and participation.
We areverygratefulto alargeofpeoplefortheir effortinpreparingthis vol-
ume. We wouldliketo acknowledgethe financialsupportprovidedbyUniversiti
Kebangsaan Malaysia. Our appreciation also goes to the members of the Pro-
gram Committee, who spent a significant amount of time for not only ensuring
the quality of the conference program, but also for the selection of papers that

appear in this volume. In addition, we would like to offer a very special thank
you to the supporting committee for their effort in editing and formatting the
proceedings.
Finally, we would also like to thank the Faculty of Information Science and
Technology, Bursary and Chancellery of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia for
their valuable assistance.
