Preface
The Computer Society of India organized the 52nd Annual Convention on the theme
“Social Transformation-Digital Way” during January 19–21, 2018, at Science City,
Kolkata. The pre-convention tutorial was organized on January 18, 2018, at the
Technology Campus of the University of Calcutta. The response was overwhelming
and370enthusiasticparticipants cameallthewayfromGourbangaUniversity,Malda
andthecollegesofBankura,WestMidnapur,Durgapur,Haldia,Kalyani,andHooghly,
in addition to various universities and institutes within the territory of Kolkata. Over
600 delegates, from all walks of life (academic institutions, government departments,
industry houses, and other stake holders) attended the conference.
This is an important and prestigious event of the Society and has been held since
1966, when CSI-66, the first annual convention cum conference with the theme “An
Ideal Computer Map for India,” was held at Kolkata. Since then, this annual mega
eventoftheSocietyhasbeenheldatdifferentcitiesofIndia.TheKolkataChapterhas
hostedthisevent eighttimes in1966,1978,1986,1990,1994, 2001,2006,and2012.
This was the ninth time that Kolkata hosted this conference.
The conference had an interesting combination of keynote addresses, motivational
talk, invited talks, general speeches of interest, talks from industries, paper presenta-
tions, and panel discussions in multiple sessions, covering diverse topics of interest.
TheproceedingsoftheselectedandpresentedpaperswaspublishedintheCCISseries
of Springer Nature, free of cost. We are thankful to the authority of Springer for their
active association with CSI. Three best paper awards of 250 Euro, 200 Euro and 150
Euro in the form of eBook vouchers were also given by Springer.
Thepaperswerecheckedforsimilarities multipletimesthroughiThenticate,access
of which was provided by Springer. The EasyChair scoring scheme was adopted to
select the best papers (59 in all) out of 157 submissions based on reviews using
EasyChair. We received papers from IITs, ISI, IIITs, JU, CU, KU, along with some
papers from the USA and UK. The presented papers were modified as per the sug-
gestions of the session judges and modified papers were uploaded to the Springer
system after rechecking for similarities. We are grateful to the contributors and
reviewers for their efforts.
The theme of the conference was well deliberated upon and the organizers unani-
mously decided on “Social Transformation” through different digital ways. This was
primarily because the central and state governments at their respective levels were
usingtechnologytomakethistransformationpossiblebyensuringconnectivitywithits
citizens. In line with the theme, the conference was organized in such a manner that
participantscouldgetextensiveopportunitiestoexploreandbuildeverlastingnetworks
at different levels.
