Preface
Wearedelightedtointroducetheproceedingsofthe5theditionoftheEuropeanAlliance
for Innovation (EAI) International Conference on Smart Grid and Internet of Things
(SGIOT 2021), which took place at Windsor Hotel, Taichung, during December 18–
19, 2021. This conference provided an opportunity for researchers, developers, and
practitionersfromaroundtheworldtoconnectanddiscussrecentfindingsintheareaof
theemergingsmartgridandInternetofThings.ThetechnicalprogramofSGIOT2021
consistedof13fullpapersinoralpresentationsessionsatthemainconferencetracks.
Thesetechnicalpaperscoverabroadrangeoftopicsinwirelesssensor,vehicularad
hocnetworks,security,deeplearning,andbigdata.Asidefromthehigh-qualitytechni-
calpaperpresentations,thetechnicalprogramalsofeaturedthreekeynotespeeches.The
firstkeynotespeechwasentitled“Real-TimeMulti-RobotTaskAssignmentinaWire-
lessNetworkedSmartFactory,”byKwang-ChengChen,fromtheUniversityofSouth
Florida, USA. The second keynote speech was entitled “Federated Learning through
NOMAbasedgradientcompressionandthroughovertheaircomputation,”byRoseHu,
fromUtahStateUniversity.Thelastkeynotespeechwasentitled“Background,motiva-
tion,andperformanceoffree5GC,”byJyh-ChengChenfromtheNationalYangMing
ChiaoTungUniversity,Taiwan.
Coordinationwiththesteeringchair,ImrichChlamtac,wasessentialforthesuccess
oftheconference.Wesincerelyappreciatehisconstantsupportandguidance.Itwasalso
agreatpleasuretoworkwithsuchanexcellentorganizingcommitteeteamfortheirhard
workinorganizingandsupportingtheconference.Inparticular,theTechnicalProgram
Committee, who completed the peer-review process for technical papers and helped
to put together a high-quality technical program. We are also grateful to Conference
