Enjoy!<br><br>Kilodney originally posted his versions on Wordpress.com from 2010 to shortly before his death in 2014. It was the first time that all 38 of Shakespeare’s plays had been rewritten by one author and published in one place. They are re-packaged here to increase the likelyhood of people, like you, finding them. <br><br>Mr. Kilodney hoped acting companies would be encouraged to stage these plays more often.<br><br><i><b>Gist of the story:</b></i> Antonio, a merchant, borrows a large sum of money from the Jewish moneylender<br>Shylock, who hates him. Shylock won’t charge interest on the loan. Instead, Antonio must guarantee<br>the loan with a pound of his own flesh. Antonio signs the contract because he is borrowing the money<br>to help his friend Bassanio, who seeks to marry the wealthy heiress Portia. Antonio is confident that<br>his ships will return in plenty of time to provide him with the money to pay back the loan. However,<br>the ships fail to return on time, and he can’t repay the loan. Now Shylock demands his pound of flesh,<br>and he drags Antonio into court to enforce the contract. Portia disguises herself as a lawyer and comes<br>to Venice to save Antonio’s life. (Taken at face value, this play is so anti-Semitic, no modern<br>playwright could get away with it. Nevertheless, it remains one of Shakespeare’s most popular plays.<br>And now you know where the phrase “a pound of flesh” comes from.)<br></br></br></br></br></br></br></br></br></br></br></br></br></br></br></br></br>
