PREFACE
Sreekrishnapuram V. T. Bhattathiripad College is a first grade Government
Aided College affiliated to the University of Calicut aimed at promoting
higher education in the rural and backward regions of Sreekrishnapuram in
the Palakkad district of Kerala State. The college is named after V. T.
Bhattathiripad who is acknowledged as one of the pioneers of social revolution
in Kerala. Established in 1982, the College is a Higher Education initiative
managed by Sree Sankara Trust, a charitable organization that upholds the
principles and ideologies of Adi Sankaracharya, the most renowned Advaita
Vedanta philosopher and theologian of Namboothiri origin (Brahmin).
The college had its humble beginning as a junior college with two Pre-degree
Groups. Upgraded to a degree college with the introduction of BA Sanskrit in
1991, it was further raised to a First Grade college with the sanction of M. Sc.
Computer Science in 2001. At present the college offers six Under Graduate
Degree courses and two Post Graduate Degree courses. The college is
included in the 12(B) and 2(f) of the UGC Act 1956 as per letter No: F8-
91/99(CP-P-1) dated 20-03-2000 of Secretary, UGC and was NAAC accredited
with B grade in 2009.
For the last five years, we have been putting our sincere efforts to amend and
incorporate the suggestions of the last Peer Team visit and have taken due care
to portray a clear unbiased picture of the achievements of the college in the
Self- Study Report (SSR) for Cycle II of Sreekrishnapuram V. T. Bhattathiripad
College.

I appreciate the cooperation and sincerely thank the management, each and
every faculty, administrative staff, and stakeholders for their contribution in
the preparation of this SSR.
I herewith present and submit the Self- Study Report (SSR) for Cycle II of
Sreekrishnapuram V. T. Bhattathiripad College to the National Assessment &
Accreditation Council (NAAC), Bangalore for Assessment and Accreditation
and anticipate the visit of the Peer Team to our college, at the earliest.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Sreekrishnapuram V. T. Bhattathiripad College is situated in the idyllic village
of Mannampatta Sreekrishnapuram of Palakkad District of Kerala. The college
is geographically located in a rural area, 32 km away from Palakkad town,
nestled on top of a hill amidst 32 acres of lush greenery. Established in 1982,
this is the only Arts and Science College in this area with an approximate
intake of 760 students. The college in consonance with its vision and mission
caters to the needs of the students of socially and economically marginalized
groups of Palakkad district. It has completed 27 years of dedicated service to
the society in the realm of higher education. A co-educational college aided by
the Government of Kerala, Sreekrishnapuram V. T. Bhattathiripad College
admits both Undergraduates and Post-graduates and awards degrees under
the purview of the University of Calicut.
The college is under the management of Sree Sankara Trust which was found
in the year 1965 at Peringara, Kerala State by few well-wishers of Namboothiri
Community. The objective of the trust centers round the ideals and doctrine of
advaita vedanta as expounded by Jagad Guru Sree Adi Sankara, the great saint
of India. It seeks to realign education and social welfare activities and bring
the students and the youth of the country with a value based and progressive
attitude that may help enrich human life. Sreekrishnapuram V T
Bhattathiripad College is the second college of the trust and is established in
memory of the revolutionist and progressive writer, late V. T. Bhattathiripad.
The ideologies and principles of this great reformer have been adopted as the
mission of our college.

The college came into existence in 1982 through the initiative taken by a group
of eminent academicians and social activists who recognized the importance of
higher education in the development of the rural area. The lack of commuting
facilities to attend higher education institutions at faraway places and other
educational barriers of the residents of Sreekrishnapuram was overcome with
the setting up of V. T. Bhattathiripad College at Sreekrishnapuram village.
The college had its modest beginning with two Pre-Degree Groups at Pachayil
Temple Agrasala Mannampatta on December 1982. On February 1982 the
college was shifted to the present location with its own land and buildings.
The college offers six Undergraduate and two Post Graduate courses. The
college has an eco friendly atmosphere which is congenial for teaching and
learning. The landscape is kept intact and it lends uniqueness to the college.
CURRICULAR ASPECTS
Curricula, for the various courses offered by the college are prescribed by the
University of Calicut to which the college is affiliated. Since the College is an
affiliated college to the University of Calicut, it does not have the freedom to
design its curriculum. University of Calicut adopted Choice Based Credit
Semester System structure (CBCSS) from 2009 onwards. To suit the CBCSS, the
curriculum and syllabus has been re designed and restructured twice in 2009
and 2014. Twelve of our senior faculty members are UG/PG faculty members,
board chairman etc. and have contributed immensely in curriculum design
and implementation at University level.
The curriculum implementation process of the college begins with the
preparation of the College Academic Calendar based on the University academic
schedule. Department Academic Calendar and Time Tables is set by the Heads‘ of

the Department and the Course Planner is prepared by each faculty for effective
implementation of the curriculum. The management facilitates necessary
infrastructure support for smooth conduct of academic activities. Teachers are
provided with INFLIBNET, Computers/laptop with internet facility and LCD
projectors for ICT enabled teaching. Networking with other universities and
colleges are some of the strategies for effective curriculum implementation at
the College. To ensure the achievement of curriculum objectives assignments,
seminars, tests are held.
We offer Under Graduate programmes in Sanskrit, History and Economics in
arts, Mathematics in Science stream and B.Com and BBA in the Commerce
stream. The college offers Post Graduate programmes in Computer Science
and Commerce. Enrichment courses like Foundation course in CA, NET/SET
coaching, PSC coaching, coaching class Bank Tests; Android etc are included
to provide progression to higher studies and employability. Additional Skill
Acquisition Programme to equip its young population with skills in relevant
to regional and global employment markets. Online courses in Java and PHP
from Spoken Tutorial of IIT are conducted.
The holistic development is achieved through community orientation
programs such as NSS, CSS, sports etc. All the activities of the various clubs
enrich and enhance the experiences of students.
Feedback from Parents, students and other stakeholders are obtained and
necessary changes effected for betterment of the students.
TEACHING, LEARNING AND EVALUATION
The admission process at Sreekrishnapuram V. T. Bhattathiripad is transparent
and strictly adheres to the rules laid down by the Government of Kerala and

the University of Calicut. Single Window Centralized Admission Process
(CAP) is presently followed. A nodal officer is appointed by the Principal and
he/she is in charge of the admission in the college and provides necessary
guidance to the candidates in the registration process.
All information pertaining to admission is announced by the University.
University prepares the list of selected candidates and notifies the dates of the
interview. The college conducts the interview and after document verification
admits the candidate on remitting the required fees fix by the University. The
reservation criteria as stipulated by Government of Kerala and University of
Calicut are strictly followed.
Approximately 80% of the students are from economically less privileged
families.
Though, there is no reservation for women, 74% of the students are female.

Students‘ needs in terms of knowledge and skills before the commencement of
the programme is assessed through Entry Level Aptitude test and based on their
performance students are identified as slow, average and advanced learners.
Induction programme are conducted at Department level to acquaint the
students with the programmes to which they have enrolled. Scholar Support
Programme, Tutorial classes and Remedial coaching classes are provided for
the slow learners. Advanced learners are supported with Walk with a Scholar
(WWS) to provide necessary orientation, guidance and motivation to the
promising students so as to enrich and nourish their talents for higher studies
and better employment.
College Academic Calendar and Department Academic Calendar are prepared
at the beginning of the academic year. Departments schedule all academic
activities like submission of Assignments, Seminars and Project topics.
Seminar dates, conduct of internal examinations. ICT enabled classes and
online Spoken Tutorial Courses scheduled and Screening of YouTube videos are
planned. Course Planner is prepared by each faculty. Weekly teaching plans
with proposed lecture topic, lecture hours, lectures delivered, teaching
methodologies adopted, assignments given, seminar allotted Class tests

conducted, the average marks obtained, the most difficult question for the
pupil in the test, details of Departmental/College/University Examination
work are all noted. Student Chronicle for PG and Student Profile records the
results of continuous evaluation. This includes the marks of two internal
examination, assignment, seminar, attendance of the pupil and University
marks.
Learning is made more student-centric by interactive teaching method, project
based learning method, practical session, seminars and computer assistant
learning are practiced. Participatory learning activities such as participating in
interclass quiz competition, departmental wall magazines and departmental
seminars using audio/ visual aids project work assignments are encouraged.
Audio visual aids are used for class room instruction, but not regularly.
Internet facility is available for the faculty as well as students.
The teachers of the college take several efforts around the year to nurture
critical thinking and creativity and in developing scientific temper among the
students. PG students make use of National Library and Information Services
Infrastructure for Scholarly Content (N-LIST), to access to e-resources through
UGC – INFLIBNET to which the college has access. They are instructed to use
open education resources, NPTEL, E Pathasala, NME-ICT, Sakshat etc. PG
students of the Computer Science undergo Online Courses in SPOKEN
TUTORIAL projects of MHRD conducted by IIT Bombay.
The college sensitizes the students on gender and environmental issues
through the curriculum by celebrating national and international day,
organizing awareness classes, seminars, symposium quiz competition etc.
