• pass medially to the sacroiliac joints
• cross the iliac vessels anteriorly
• swing laterally near the ischial spines
• pass medially to penetrate the base of the bladder
• vasa deferentia pass anterior to the ureters
• uterine arteries are closely related to the lower ureters
