TheCityofSantaMonicarecognizestheimportanceofhigh-qualitychildcare
andpreschoolprogramstobothresidentsandthoseindividualswhoworkin
ourcommunity.
Childcarecentersprovideanearlychildhoodeducationprograminagroup
settingforinfants,toddlers,preschool-age(2-5years),andschool-age(5-12
years)children. Mostprovideservicesweekdaysbetween7:00amand6:00
pm,thoughmanypreschoolprogramsoperatepart-dayand/orhavepart-week
sessions. FamilyChildcareofferscareinprovider’shome. Familychildcare
homesarelicensedaseitherSmallFamilyChildcare(upto6children)orLarge
FamilyChildcare(upto12children). YoumayalsohaveIn-Homecareby
hiringsomeone(babysitter,nanny,aupair,relative)tocareforyourchildin
yourhome. Yousetthehours,responsibilities,rulesandpay. Caregiversshould
atleastreceivetraininginInfant/ChildFirstAidandCPR. Itisrecommended
thatyouobtainaTrustLinefingerprintclearancefortheprovider,whichisa
backgroundcheckthroughStateandFBIcriminalrecordsandtheStateChild
AbuseIndex.
